That's an understatement in the same way that being lobotomized and having your head replaced by a brick is a harmless medical procedure.

Egypt kicked out the UN, blocked the Tiran Straits, and called for a united Arab action to remove Israel from the map while massing forces in the Sinai. Some telling Nasser quotes:

"Our basic objective will be the destruction of Israel. The Arab people want to fight."

"The armies of Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon are poised on the borders of Israel ... to face the challenge, while standing behind us are the armies of Iraq, Algeria, Kuwait, Sudan and the whole Arab nation. This act will astound the world. Today they will know that the Arabs are arranged for battle, the critical hour has arrived. We have reached the stage of serious action and not of more declarations."

At this point a preemptive war makes perfect sense, as I'm sure you would agree, unless of course the country in question was Israel/USA.
    :D

(sorry about messing up the quotes, first is Griegs and second is TISO)

Exactly, notice that none of the aggressor countries is Iran?

No-one is saying that a pre-emptive strike is never justified, my point is that currently there is nothing tangible to say that Iran is a direct threat to America. At present they lack both the capability and the will to harm America.

A threat to Israel, yes, but not necessarily any more threatening that it has been since 1979. And most likely not sufficiently threatening to warrant war. Iran has not been mobilising or amassing arms unreasonably, and there is nothing to suggest that their nuclear program has been developing for anything other than civilian purposes, unless you believe certain hysterical news outlets ;)

The only possible interests I can see America having in initiating a pre-emptive strike upon Iran is to protect Israel should Iran 'suddenly' become a threat, or for some strategic/financial gain. Unlike Saddam, the Iranian government is neither guilty of any war crimes, nor have they ever expressed any will to be openly hostile to America.

Only one - I missed the whole unhappy Suez crisis (blame the UK and France!). 1982 was part of the Infatada, which Israel did not start. Which comes out at 3 all.

And you have just as many incidents of Israel's neighbours making air incursions into Israel or lobbing artillery into Israel.

Overall it comes out about equal.

I'm interested - can you provide a link as proof?

I agree 100% - my comments were exclusively at the 1967 war.

    :)
