I'll bet they aren't much happier with us here in Bloomington, Indiana.
The Dalai Lama will be in Bloomington for a public talk on October 27. He has family living here, and has been a fairly-frequent visitor in the past. He dedicated a Tibetan temple that is located here a few years ago.
I wonder if Richard Gere and Steven Segal will come to town as they are big-fans of the Dalai Lama.
I'm hoping to see him walking downtown so I can say:
    "Hello Dalai!"

If someone would take your post and substitute Communist China with USA would you be offended? A bit of civility would be in order.

I cannot do anything but agree completely with TISO's statement. Minimum standards must be upheld, for dignities sake.

If the US pull'd out and reopened our old factory's sure it would be hard at first but we would completely wash the Chinese economy down the toilet. Wal-Mart would be gone.

ALL China has to do is to cash in your foreign debt. While current US administration was busy racking up debts and credits (with current tax breaks war in Iraq has to be financed somehow), China and Russia were busy buying them. China now posseses a financial A bomb regarding US economy (in form of 900 billion USD of US treasury bonds) . If they would consider thet it would be in their interes in destroying US economy and start another great depression they could easily do it.
Combine that with destinct possibility of oil producing countries starting to sell their oil for other currencies ( not USD)... Anyone with basic knowledge of finacial world gets nightmares or wet dreams becouse of this.

I think this is a big controversy. But first of all-what does this dude called the Dalai Lama have to do with China? His name sounds Indian or something to me.

Red China invaded and now occupies Tibet which is were the dolly llama lives. He's the dude that lives on top of the mountain who folks seek out for wisdom.

I agree with Revere. I do my best not to buy any China made products even though it's impossible sometimes.

Personally, I thing that Beijing can go suck an egg in this instance. If we want to let the Dalai Lama speak, even give him an award, that's our business. If the Chinese government doesn't like it, tough. It's not like they tailor their actions overmuch to what the US government likes or dislikes.

Given that China has attempted to pass laws regarding reincarnation in a blatant attempt to control the next Dalai Lama - I whole-heartedly agree with Corp.

China right now is a capitalist dictatorship. They're fascists in some ways. They are global bullies and they are trying to silence those that they dont agree with. They keep him from speaking because he advocates the independence of Tibet, which is a free country that was invaded for 1.the chinese have always staked a claim to it and because its mineral rich. They say they brought communism there and made everyone better, but the life expectancy is lower there than in China and many people have gone missing. They also have state police there to crack down on dissedents. They do similar things with Taiwan, such as keeping them out of the UN because they are a bunch of chinese who decided "hey, I dont want to be communist. I want at least a few rights". Communist China has no stake on Taiwan what so ever.

Frankly, I think it really sucks that we are tolerating China just to save save a nickel on some poor quality crap from Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc

I pretty much agree with you CSP, except for:

Taiwan is the last remnants of 'Nationalist China' - the regime that lost the Civil War to the Communists. The only reason that Communist China did not follow them to Taiwan and take the whole lot is that America (having meddled in the Civil War already) decided to protect this remnant of non-Communist China. It is eminently fair to state that taiwn only exists because America wanted them to - until Nixon arrived the USA officially recognised Taiwan as China, and refused to recognise that Communist China existed at all.

As to whether Nationalist China was better than Comunist China in terms of 'human rights'... that is another question.

There are some more rights. The government dosent tell you where to live and you can have your own business. You arent some statistical atomiton. Well, just because China got the mainland dosent mean they get Taiwan. Its a remnant of the civil war, as you said.

That is certainly true now, 60 years after the Civil War.

Well, just because China got the mainland dosent mean they get Taiwan. Its a remnant of the civil war, as you said.[/quote]
No. But it should be remembered that Taiwan only stayed unconquered because America felt it was in their best interests. For most of the last 60 years there has been a significant American naval presence in that area, as a deterrant, and the area is very tense, politically. Without 60 years of American goodwill, Taiwan would be no more.

Ether get shot by the communists or run to Taiwan. Its not that big of land the Chinese should just get over it. I dont think that it will ever go back to China.
