I'm taking a wild guess here but the but stock keeps saying "I'm a Mauser K98". Damn, now I know I really need a holiday when pictures talk to me. :p

I'll Have to agree with you on this,
The Stock looks like a G98.
The Scope, to me looks very similar to the German war time production scope rather than the Enfield scopes, Is that some form of moderator on the end of it? of just some form of barrel shroud

I was waiting for you Dave, correct Chol, my contacts tell me it'a M98 Mauser fitted a PSO-1 scope with a home made suppressor.
Found buried in cache in Iraq.

    Re: Rifle

There's something odd with the read stock, there is no cut-out for the bolt handle nor is there anything to hold a sling so it might have been re-stocked at some point or a K98 Bolt has been placed In the action of a G98
Now seeing that picture, the bolt gives it away completely

I believe the pre-WW2 vintage Mausers had straight bolt handles. That would be why there is no cut out for it.

Yes they did, well the full-size variants did (I've worked on 2 of these G98's)
But they did also produce a Carbine variant the K98 (hence why the 1935 variant was the K98Kar, being that it was even shorter than the original carbine)

Remember that the peoples of this area have had years of making, reparing and stealing guns of all kinds. The one pictured could quite easily be an ASP.
