Hi everyone. Does anyone here make model guns out of wood and metal. I am thinking of taking this up as a hobby. thanks, the Commando.
amazed. I don't know how you do it Bluey, posting on here, computer games, school, writing a WW2 story (by the way is Claude ok? not been shot has he? he's a bit quiet!) now on top of all this you are thinking of building model guns. Where do you find the time, no wonder you haven't got a girl friend! PS. Girls are a lot more fun if I remember correctly!
I wasn't even aware that this was a hobby but whatever floats your boat. If you are going to go down this route be very careful with what you're intending making. You may find yourself accidently breaking firearms laws which could land you a hefty jail term if someone decides to make an example of you. Even worse, if you take any of your creations out in public regardless of whether you've made them as replicas of real firearms or not you could potentially wind up getting yourself shot by armed police. Either way, I'd be tempted to seek some legal advice or consider talking to your local police first to make sure what you're thinking about doing isn't likely to land you in any trouble. Of course I'm speaking from a UK/Euro perspective here, I've not idea what the Aussie firearms laws or attitudes are like. To be honest though the sort of metal work that would be involved would involve a lot of skill and fairly expensive equipment (If someone is willing to give you access to a workshop that's a bonus, but you'll still need at least basic training in metalworking) unless you're going to use mainly painted wood, but even then woodworking skills and tools involved will almost certainly require some formal training (Or a lot of practice) before you're going to able to produce a decent piece. What sort of thing were you thinking of making out of interest?
Merlin; I have got a girlfriend, and the way I find time to go on here so much is because my parents teach me at home, and when I have finished my school work I usually go on here a bit. Claude has been captured by the SS, and is about to make his way to Switzerland, after taking part in a raid on the railways outside Caen. I will post about it soon, but I have to go now. the Commando
model guns. Bluey, are you writing of full size guns? built from kits or scratch models? Just a gun that looks like a gun or a replica? If you are talking kits there are plenty of plastic and metal models available. PS. I used to spend most, sorry, ALL of my junior days in the 'Boy scouts', then I found girls and realised that Lord Baden Powel had missed alot out of his 'Scouting for Boys'! Especially scouting for girls!!!
For the "Neighorhood Wars" as a young lad... I had the "Man from U.N.C.L.E." rifle with a pistol that detached from the pistol-grip. My favorite however was a replica M14 or M1A that looked like the real thing. I killed most all of the neighbor-kids with that one. Interestingly, Mattel came out with a plastic replica of the M-16 in the Vietnam-Era... and GI's in Vietnam were rumored to have thought Mattel was making their "plastic" M-16s as well! Tim
I'm thinking of making full sized small arms replicas from scratch. I once made a Thompson, but my dad found it in the front yard, and he really blew up. He thought people would think it was a real gun. I'm going to try and make an Mp40.
I work on guns as a hobby and it can be fun but you really need to learn of all the firearms laws for area. There are somethings you can and cannot do. I don't have replicas, all my guns work, so I'm speaking from limited experience but I do know that you can buy non-firing receivers and then put the real gun parts on them. Basically a parts kit.

Sadly any alterations on a firearm in the UK are hard to do, because of restrictions, Work is usually done on De-Acts.
