Hi There. New to the Forum and I'm hoping to get some help. I recently was given an I.D. Tag from a Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf F. I was wondering if there is a way to find any information on this particular Panzer based on the turret/turm number, chassis/fahrgestell number and ID # of where it was manufctured. I'd love to know what division it served, where and ultimately what happened to it. I really appreciate any help that can be offered. thanks!

    Hi,

    I think it's as follows

    Turret - 82075
    Chasis - 82050

bqo is the id code for Krupp-Gruson, Magdeburg-Buckau, Germany

The F mark entered service in Spring 41 so presumably went into production late 40, early 41. There was also a IVF1 and IVF2 but I don't know if that would be put onto the plate.

The IVG started into service for the Spring of 42, giving the F a 1 year prod run

    Wiki suggests 462 F1 and 175 F2 were produced.

Given the time and period they would almost certainly of been given to the Panzer units fighting in Yugoslavia and then barbarossa

Chris will no doubt make mention of the fact that F2 & G are the same. G being the correct terminology. (If I understand correctly).

Your plate is from a pzkw IV F (with the short gun) (the F2 mentioned in the tread had a long gun.

The pzkwIV F was produced in chassis numbers 82001 to 82614 from april 1941 to march 1942 the type saw active service in Russia and North Afrika.

Info from "The panzerkampfwagen III and IV series and their derivatives (P. Chamberlain and H. Doyle)

If you wish i can scan you the page with the description of the type and a photograph.
