Although I'm interested, I'll withdraw for now. Maybe if there comes a second round, or if there is an opening while it's working a few months from now I'll step in.
I have an idea. Why dont we have a RISK style game ? We can have generals that command in the strategic sense and generals that further down command in the tactical sense
To be honest, I doubt there's a large enough membership base here to get it going and sustain it and equally important I doubt there is anyone on here at the moment who has either the time or ability to run something as relatively complicated as that. Anyway, back to that matter at hand. I'm a fair bit behind where I was hoping to be after a delightful bout of family illness at the start of the week, however what I'll aim to do over the next couple of days is get the list of characteristics up for those who wish to make their own rolls. Siberian Black's basic template is a good start if you want to use that, though I wouldn't worry about equipment since you'll have a chance to choose from an armoury in the game. All I'd like in addition is a paragraph or two (Or as much as you like within reason) outlining you're character's history to date and anything particularly remarkable (hatreds/loves/etc) that might influence them in game. Really this is as much about getting a rough sort of framework for what your character's like down on paper, as giving me a guide on how your character should behave. i.e. Are they brave, selfless and noble or cowardly, selfish and treacherous? If a comrade is in trouble would your character risk his life to help them out, or finish them off figuring it was a bigger cut of the loot for themselves?
Got it. Little shady on the whole dice-rolling-thingee but I think I'll catch on once I see the outline. Sort of working on a character (which can be edited later) But I was wondering- are we dealing with modern times or something, like another 'era' (WW2, '30's, the near/distant future etc)
Here's my character: Name: Michael 'Rhino' Bane Gender: Male Height: 6'5" Weight: 250 lbs Age: 38 Occupation: Special Ops member Physical description: Has spent a serious amount of time at the gym and is burly and muscular as a result Hair style: Doesn't really matter to him, usually a crew cut Colour: Jet-black Length: Quite short Eyes: Black Distinctive markings: Not really Clothing: Army boots, combat jacket and work trousers Weapons/offensive items: Colt .45 automatic pistol, M16 carbine, grenades, switchblade, also very good with rocket launchers Armour/defensive items: Kevlar vest (tries to get his hands on carbon nanotube whenever possible), riot shield whenever practical, other reinforced clothing and body armour Skills: Highly formidable in armed/unarmed combat, Olympic level weightlifter, learning kickboxing Personality: Serious, down-to-earth mindset, occasionally laughs, wants to get the job done every time Bio: Michael Bane was the big kid from the start. He was always pretty casual, and dismissed issues other kids would need to talk to someone about. He became like an outcast, with few friends. Looks were the least of his concerns, and when he joined the Special Ops when he was 20 or so, he quickly became a top operative. Bane continues to be a good soldier and is always ready for a job. I'll have a seocnd character coming up.
Ok I'll keep that inmind once we get going Name: Turon Blank Gender: female Height: 5' 6" Weight: 110lb Age: 26 Occupation: Mercenary Physical Description: Hair Style: straight hair, usually pulled back in a ponytail or braided down the length Colour: dark brown with orange highlights Length: waist Eye style/colour: green eyes Tattoos/distinctive markings: a serpent tattoo down her left arm and a dragon down her back Clothing description: blue jeans, a white t-shirt under a brown leather vest, black leather studded belt, elbow-length fingerless gloves and a blue bandanna Weapons/offensive items: Armour/defensive items: Skills: Personality: generally a loner she 'plays by the rules'- most of the time and keep to herself a fair amount. After the break up with Darren she feels like she can't trust men to the same degree and avoid getting to personal with anyone Brief Bio: Growing up I knew I was different from the other girls. They were more interested in dolls and playing 'house' while I had fun playing baseball with the boys and eating worms. Well watching the idiot boys eating them anyway. As I got older I watched the other kids become alternately revolted by and, as puberty hit, interested in the opposite genders. I'll admit I too 'fell in love' with a crush. Darren and I dated on and off through highschool but after graduation, he found another interest and left me by the roadside as it were. Frustrated and with little money to spare, at eighteen I enlisted with the marines and gave a year of my life to a tour of duty. The unit I was assigned to was a small group of marine who had proven themselves above their fellow soldiers and it wasn't long before I'd become one of them. they'd had other females but I was the only one who survives her first firefight. With three kills under my belt- almost literally since I snuck close enough to use my bayonet- I gained their respect. No easy task, they told me afterward. I never let the stress get to me but I found returning to a civilian life was harder than any of the shrinks said it would be. After almost a month of looking for jobs to keep my busy, I stumbled across an ad for a military style military group. I gave 'em a call and after a couple week on probation till they got a feel for my personality, I was a full fledged member.
My second character: Name: Jonathan 'Skyhawk' Hood Gender: Male Height: 5'10" Weight: 185 lbs Age: 31 Occupation: Special Ops operative Physical description: Works out regularly, and is fairly muscular Hair style: Crew cut Colour: Black Length: Fairly short Eye style/colour: Blue Tattoos/distinctive markings: None Clothing: Work boots, trousers, black jacket Weapons/offensive items: MP5, Browning Hi-Power, grenades, expert with most types of guns Armour/defensive items: Kevlar vest (carbon nanotube whenever possible) other forms of body armour Skills: Master of tae-kwon-do and kickboxing, unbelievable marksman, excels at flying/driving most vehicles Personality: Good sense of humour, frowns upon old vehicles, a real flyboy, pretty gung-ho Bio: Jonathan Hood liked fighting from childhood. At 19, he enlisted in the military and quickly worked his way up. His given codename was Skyhawk, but his teammates referred to him as Fingers, as he could be extremely trigger-happy. He met and befriended Michael Bane, alias Rhino, and the two have become good together. Hood remains ready to fight off any threat at any given time.
Your characters had to be "human", so you went ahead and turned them into the barely human extreme of size, strength and fighting ability? I'm not sure if I want to be in a game where I get pitted against Duke Nukem and Lara Croft... Really, I would like to play an RP with you guys, but you'll have to consider the fact that in order to make any story work, your characters have to be vulnerable in some way, emotionally or physically. If they're not, what else could you write about except them killing everything they see?
The reality of this game is that regardless of your muscle mass a good burst of gunfire will kill your character and common sence is a far better defence against injury than being big and strong. I really wouldn't worry about competing against a Arnie-type character, in this game even an olympiad weight lifter will only have a slight advantage against a relatively normal individual. Even if you're an Arnie/Sly/Lara type a ripped vein or artery will still kill you pretty quickly and it will in this game. Those posted are only vague outlines so far, what matters is the character stats and skills, and it is up to the individuals concerned to determine those randomly via the dice rolls, there will be a certain amount of "Tweaking" involved, but ultimately if you swap one good characteristic for a bad one it may well affect your character in the game. For example, swapping a combat related characteristic for an intelligence related characteristic may enable you to fight twice as hard, but if intelligence enables you to avoid the fight in the first place it's the better option. You will have the chance to allocate skill points against skill areas, this wont mean you can just say "Crack shot-sniper" and get a high skill in shooting, you'll have a set amount of points to allocate and it's up to you to make the most of them. This will include social, techincal and intelligence related skill areas, so please don't think you can rely on just shooting your way out of trouble. For example, if your character is ex-special forces, I'll expect a good spread of firearms, combat, demolitions, concealment and survival skills in addition to other general skills too. I'm hoping to post up the list of Stats before monday and you can start really fleshing out your characters and add skills factors from there. Sorry about the delays, but real life intervenes.
How did I do that? All I said was that my characters were good at fighting! They're not bulletproof, I assure you, and there are quite a few 6'5" and even more 5'10" guys around. I think Ebar even mentioned he was 6'6", so I hardly consider 6'5" 'extreme'. My characters' weaknesses are obvious-bullets, rockets, etc.
Im not really interested in playing...but I did like making the character part Name: Luke "Luk" Jaystus Gender: male Height: 5'11" Weight: 165 lbs Age: 19 Occupation: Marine, LCpl. Physical description: Mild build Hair style: mowhawk Colour: dirty-blond Length: Fairly short Eye style/colour: hazel Tattoos/distinctive markings: None Clothing: Regular US Marine Digital Weapons/offensive items: M-16A4 Armour/defensive items: Dragon Scale Skills: Speaks mixed Arabic Personality: laughs Bio: enlisted right outve highschool..
Name: "Crude" Gender: male Height: 1.9m Weight: 65 kilos Age: 24 Occupation: Hiker for hire Physical Description: Hair Style: tends to be a mess Colour: slightly tanned Tattoos/distinctive markings: nothing that really stands out, but there is hardly a part on his body without a small wound or scar. Clothing description: jeans, t-shirt, your regular every day outfit Weapons/offensive items: never goes anywhere without his army knife, though it's more a tool then a weapon. Armour/defensive items: - Skills: excels at solving mathematical, strategical and other analyzable problems Personality: tends to be emotionally inert. Although he may outwardly seem very loyal at times he simply sticks with whom he suspects to be the winning side. Has a good sense of what's fair, but only shares if he suspects this to be more profitable in the long run. Brief Bio: Never having felt like staying in one place too long he decided to earn his living travelling, doing chores and days of work for food, shelter and a little extra. Possibly suffering from paranoia or having a dark secret he keeps his history to himself, including his name. Instead he takes on whatever nickname people give him. The most recent or popular apparently being "Crude" for speaking his mind without tact.
Revere, fair enough, sometimes character generation is one of the more fun parts. Stix, are you in or just making up a character in case? Everyone who is interested in playing. Gentlemen, what I need from you for you characters are the following: Reaction: determines hand-eye co-ordination and how fast your character reacts to events. Strength: literally determines how strong your character is. Speed: determines how fast your character can move. Appearance: represents both how good looking your character is and personal grooming. Mass: determines your character's physical size. Intelligence: How intelligent your character is. Technical ability: represents your character's technical apptitude. Coolness: how calmly your character responds to situations Sociability: represents just that, how well your character interacts with others. For each characteristic roll 2 normal six sided dice and add the scores together, this will give you your characteristics, a high roll is good and a low roll is bad. To be clear on this, you don't roll the dice, add up the results then split them up as you see fit. Make a note of each characteristic and roll the dice in turn, what you roll is what you get. I'll allow players to swap one pair of results around or re-roll one result to allow for a certain degree of customisation in your character, to be fair if you feel your characteristics really do not represent your character you may re-roll the whole lot, however in this case you will reroll everything. If you prefer I can roll your characteristics for you and make some recommendations on which may be good swaps or re-rolls. So, copy and paste into your reply: Reaction : Strength : Speed : Appearance : Mass : Intelligence : Techical Ability : Coolness : Sociability : Reply by email (PM me for email address), the forum's private message function or on this thread. The results of this will determine how many points you have to spend on skills. At the moment I intend to run a sort of mini-game first, something that will serve as an introduction to this game, will give a feel for whether people like it or not and allow for feedback on what you expect from the game too.
Laura Croft? Look's? Hell, I'll go for that who wouldn't? Although with these stats I dunno: Reaction: 4 Strength: 3 Speed: 7 Appearance: 6 Mass: 4 Intelligence: 2 Techical Ability: 8 Coolness: 10 Sociability: 6
For Bane: Reaction: 4 Strength: 8 Speed: 3 Appearance: 2 (looks and grooming are the last thing Bane would worry about) Mass: 6 Intelligence: 2 Technical ability: 5 Coolness: 10 Sociability: 4 For Hood: Reaction: 6 Strength: 6 Speed: 5 Appearance: 3 Mass: 5 Intelligence: 4 Technical ability: 7 Coolness: 9 (prone to occasional bursts of rage) Sociability: 7
Sorry Gents, I haven't forgotten but unfortunately real life comes first and this takes a bit more effort than my usual posts to sort out, I'll try and get something posted up this evening, but I am on Christmas present wrapping duties tonight so you may have to bear with me a bit.
