Is that something you know from experience Bobby?

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American friends. I've never understood why you gang make it a 4-5 day holiday, but what the heck! Enjoy yourselves!

Hunting in the frozen food sections, no, not me. I do like to hang out in the frozen food section in the summertime when the girlies shop for cheese, bacon, dairy products and such though.

And about the 4-5 day weekend thing, not really sure how all that worked out. Back during the ACW, Abram Linkin proclaimed the last Thursday in November to be set aside as Thanksgiving, and as a Federal Holiday. The holiday didn't really take off in the South until long after the war ended. During the Great Depression (1939), FDR moved it to the third Thursday in November in hopes that the extra shopping week before Christmas would pull the US out of the depression. Being that it was a Federal holiday and on a Thursday, I guess a lot of people took off on Friday from work. Not too many people (outside of retail and entertainment) work on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Here in Louisiana, it is a state holiday called Acadian Day. Not really sure why it's called that because the rednecks up in north and over in southeast Louisiana celebrate it too. Hope that this clears it up for you.

Happy Turkey Day. I'll take the 5 days, lol. I choose to never question the people who give me days off.

Happy thanksgiving to any and all who celebrate that occasion . We have a cousin in Singapore who had to have a turkey flown it. Singapore is a nation largely of immigrants and she does the turkey, they all bring dishes from where they come, the ultimate Thanksgiving . Would love to attend.

Tirdad, silly me wishes for a little more peace and tranquility. That all of us, all human beings, could have a day when we get together with people we do not know and eat, laugh, tell stories about our customs and listen to others. sing, dance and enjoy each others company. Alan's picture tells a good story, while we were "feeding " each other we immigrants were plotting to steal the native peoples land ! Or give them " blankets" :) and throw in an extra $24 if they throw in Manhatten !! :)

This of course shall never happen but a little less hatred could. Look at China, I never expected to be so genuinely welcome there. Young children really wanted to be photographed with our blond daughter and four young Chinese engineers took her on a day long tour to the Three Gorges Dam. The engineers on the job were from all over the world....

Of course there is no Universal Thanksgiving but I wish it was in the spirit of Alan's picture.

The above just isn’t in us I’m afraid Gaines...indeed it goes against our animal selves...perception is the key IMO...you don’t hunt and kill and steel, from your own, so the perception of what’s ‘yours’ needs to and can change...think for example an alien attack...suddenly yours is all humanity. A chance for me to harp on again about the negatives of ‘multi culturalism’ it just creates an us and them mentality...nothing to do with race...when a full blood Asian or African says g’day to me in an Australian accent I KNOW he is one of me...mine, I don’t see race just a mate.
