I'm writing a paper comparing German Military tactics of World War One and World War Two and I knew I could get info on this site...please e-mail me any sites or documents you guys might have. Thanks in advance. DUCE
Hi Duce--if your looking for stuff also on Panzer tactics--I can help a bit. This was the usual way for say--a formation of 8 German tanks to enter battle. They had two main formations. Formation one had four tanks in a column of twos with the other four following in a line of four. Another one was to have the first four tanks in a line and the following four tanks in a kind of wedge formation following behind. Of course--this also depends on terreign they were in. I don't know if I can simulate it here but I will try. I tried twice but--I can't get it to work. [ 02. June 2003, 06:13 PM: Message edited by: C.Evans ]
I just realized that I have two books that talk about German Army Tactics but--I havent found them while unpacking--yet. One book is called the German Army Order of Battle 1944 which was originally published by the US Army Intelligance services--for referances. The other book is one that on occasion is still available at Barnes and Nobles and is a think softcover book--grey colored cover--front cover whows a German soldier in full uniform and kit--back side whows the same soldier back view. This book is called: The German Army Handbook. Anyway, if I can find either book--I will see what they say in there. I know the "handbook" gives details.
Sounds great Carl! What I'm thinking of doing is looking at the various tactics, and comparing them, citing differences and advances etc. I'm going to be writing it with a friend of mine, and we'll post it here when we're done DUCE
Panzer Battles by F.W. von Mellenthin is an excellent source for WWII tactics. Another that may compare tactics is the German Army Handbook 1939 - 1945 by W.J.K Davies
Quite welcome Duce. As a matter of fact--I looked for my copies last night but did not find them. Howerver, I did find some other info I never realized that I had. Anyway, I have that German handbook that PzJgr just mentioned--I just don't know where I have it at the moment.
Major Timothy A. Wray: "Standing Fast: German Defensive Doctrine on the Russian Front During World War II Prewar to March 1943" In english and for free: http://www-cgsc.army.mil/carl/resources/csi/Wray/wray.asp
Bloody hell! The site doesn't work in my computer. I should try later... And Ducetta, I have some things you might find useful about German infantry tactics and even some sniper tactics. Just send me an ICQ message and we'll talk about it.
Search on the internet for a book called "Truppenfuhrung." One of my friends has this book, and it is essentially a German tactical field guide based off of lessons learned in the first war. For a WW2 buff it makes a fascinating read, and is right down the alley of what you need DUCE.
Just so happens that one of my friends has a copy of the book, which I'll be sure to borrow. Thanks dasreich. DUCE
