A teenager in Poland makes quite a discovery while on vacation. Makes you wonder how many time capsules are still unearthed from the war years. I would like to find out a bit more about old Count Finckestein. amp.livescience.com/62542-wwii-artifacts-buried-milk-cans.html
That would be amazing! I would probably be happier finding an old crate with perfectly preserved and brand new KAR 98's and STG-44's, or happening upon an abandoned T-34 tank in Russia that still runs and has 76mm ammo inside, or finding an old warbird collector's barn with dozens of Rolls Royce Merlins, Allison V-1710's, Pratt & Whitney 2800's, and a P-51, P-38, P-40, Spitfire, Bearcat, Corsair, B-17, and every other warbird in existence.....................but that's a little lofty.
My dream is to find the fabled tunnel in Germany that is supposedly filled with Kettenkrads. I will search for it again when I'm next in Germany. I am also contemplating spending a few days in the Netherlands digging the dump pits at Amersfoort for German equipment that was buried by the Canadians.
It does happen though. A while back an old man who had been one of the stunt pilots in the movie "Battle of Britain" sold off a bunch of old planes he had in his barn: Spanish "109s" with accompanying Rolls-Royce engines!
See..........it can happen . I have put legitimate thought into being an airfield junkie, going to airports across the country looking for oddities and hidden gems. At Falcon Field in Mesa Arizona, there are plenty of ex-military and former private aircraft that are neglected and rusting away that belong in museum's or can be salvaged and restored. There are a ton of Grumman S-2A trackers out there that could be worth something or used in some capacity There are 3 or 4 English Electric Canberra's too There's a Lodestar too, along with some PV-2 Harpoons (2) The Front and Cockpit area of a DC-7 Some OV-1 Bronco scraps too PV-2's
I know right!? No radar is gunna see that..stealth mate stealth... See the sheen guns on the front of the PV? Not a lady to trifle with...
