Hi everybody, it's nice to meet you all. I am 24 years old and have been interested in WW2 ever since I was a young boy, largely due to the influence of my grandfather who was a child during the war and often told me stories about his homefront experiences and largely helped to shape my interests. He had a pretty keen interest in the era as well and enjoyed building model military aircraft of the age, watching documentaries, etc., so I have a lot of fond memories of enjoying all of those things with him as a kid. My great-grandfather (on my paternal grandmother's side) who I had the fortune of knowing a bit just before he passed away also served in the US Army during World War 2 with the 10th Mountain Division and fought and was wounded in Italy. Several of my great-uncles also served in the Navy, though I know less about what they did. I've had the great pleasure of visiting both the submarine base in Groton and the museum there and Fall River, Massachusetts' Battleship Cove.

I am from Connecticut in the USA, and I am primarily interested in theaters or nations in the war that are not often talked about. While I love hearing about the might of the German army or the Soviet tanks or the American and British ingenuity or the Japanese determination, I love even more to hear about the Hungarians, the Bulgarians, the Romanians, Belgium, China, Mongolia, Poland, and the like. I think my favorite nation out of the "Majors", though, is France. I would really love to learn more about, well, just about anything I can get my hands on. I'm just an amateur historian for now after all and any new knowledge is good knowledge! I've been on the hunt for historical accounts, or books, or anything of that sort from the perspective of soldiers, etc. in these more "minor" countries, so if anyone has any info on those or can point me to some that would be excellent as well.

As far as hobbies go I usually video game and am working on a novel; in my free time I do a bit of creative writing coaching as well. I also collect militaria and do a bit of wargaming, though there isn't a very huge community for it where I live. In the future, when I have the income for it I would love to travel all over the place to historic sites, museums, and such; as a side note I am very interested in starting WW1 reenactment but there's nothing concrete about that yet. Model-building is something I'm starting to become interested in as well. I'm also a hobbyist musician.

Anyhow, I hope to get along with you all and learn a lot!

Hello, Tom from WV and PA here. It’s been a while since I traveled through CT. There used to be a huge flea market near Hartford. Lots of Revolutioary and WWI stuff at that time. CT used to have a lot of war buffs there. I guess most moved down south with age.
