Corona Virus - How is that working for you?

Could possibly be the population plus that the stay home and social distancing orders by state, are not being followed as well as they should be.

 

The US is not the most infected country in the world.

That tragic title is currently held by Luxembourg:





However...this data is not completely reliable and only lists known, test-confirmed cases. It is quite possible that Luxembourg is just doing a much better job of identifying real cases than the rest of the world and, therefore, has more worrying numbers.

 

In terms of deaths, we are doing slightly worse than Iran, but a bit better than other heavily hit countries.




Again, the data is subject to some reporting variations. And, keep in mind, the USA is a few weeks behind the European countries in terms of when the epidemic started. It does appear to be peaking at present in some European countries, but not in the USA. So these numbers may equilibrate to a degree in the coming weeks.

 

Well, just to change a bit, for something else to do during this time, I ordered a model 1:48 scale P51D Mustang from Michaels on line. It arrived yesterday and today I taped it off with Frog tape and sprayed the wings and fuselage with cans of modeling spray paint. Painted the rest of the parts on the sprues. I basically use my own paint scheme with the paint I have. I may start assembling it tomorrow. I didn’t like the color it was molded in and I didn’t have any gray or silver spray paint so I sprayed it light aircraft gray. I would have gone to the store but of course it’s closed. I know this plane was not manufactured in this color as far as I know.

There's a lot of misunderstanding, both about the statistics and the mitigation response.

1. The "number of cases" is meaningless, or at best totally misunderstood. Nobody has enough test kits, and nobody is going to catch up soon. Only a small fraction of SERIOUS respiratory ailments can be tested anywhere in the world. You might even look at it in the opposite sense, that a high "number of cases" indicates countries with the best response in that they have more test kits and can diagnose more people with the virus. A better metric is "deaths per million" because you can assume those deceased were actually tested since they represent the most dire cases.

2. Mitigation, "flattening the curve" doesn't mean stopping the spread. It means spreading out the infections so that hospitals aren't all overwhelmed at once. You are just as likely to contract the disease with or without "mitigation." It's just that with social distancing and all that, we won't get it all at once and die because the medical systems are overwhelmed. We'll get it three or six months from now, instead of tomorrow.

1- The numbers of WIA/KIA is the only measure of our strength that we have.Intel improves each day. More recon by the Science Btn is needed but they are getting bogged down at HQ.

2- Mitigation is holding off the enemy force by reducing our losses until the air support arrives. Vaccine and Antiviral Medication. Till then we need to spread the platoons. Those 88's are raining down.

 

Weirdly the virus is notable in my county but my wife and I are actually doing well. I have lots of work. I can draw from home, email plans or get them printed locally. Visit job sites late in the day when the contractors normally knock off. Everyone has a cell so sending pictures and sketches is easy. Not quite as easy but never boring. Kindles are providing reading time. I really feel for the people laid off, small businesses are really hurting. But grocery stores well stocked and lots of take- out places. I am exceedingly lucky to be in design-construction and still able to work even if I am slowing. Alabama was a shelter-in-work law but I have not noticed it being enforced as it is riddled with exemptions that benefit me. I am being careful but can go about as needed. I miss the eye to eye contact.

We don't know who has it. We don't know much about how it mutates. We don't know who it will hit. We don't know why some die and some just sneeze. Those are a few of the known unknowns. We do know it spreads from human to human. We do know that we have no treatment. We do know that we have no other defense except to not crowd together. Sounds like a monster to me. Alien life form that takes over a human as host to kill other humans.

Full disclosure. I'm on the dole with full health care so as long as I can buy food I won't starve or want.

Soap. As in garlic, cross or wooden stake. Tell you what, my mechanic is keeping busy.

 

In and out of hospitals all day, sure I wear a mask and gloves and have my temp checked 4-5 times a day by trained nurses as I step in..but walking that fine line...heard something about hazardous pay by some..but I haven't seen any of that stuff..rather deal with my asshole BMT drill instructor than this crap.
