Michigan must have changed their rules since I last checked. It's different for each state. There has been two case of Covid19 in our county and there's 45,000 people spread out over a 3,000 square mile area. About 17 people per square mile so we are not too concerned. Having gone through too many Lay-offs myself I do sympathize with those small businesses that have been forced to close.

Three days ago we went to Grand Rapids Minnesota and you couldn't see any appreciable difference from six months ago. The smaller shops and stores were closed but most of those are set up for the summer vacationers and are generally empty during the winter months. I have always wondered how they stay in business because unless it's July you couldn't bump into anyone if you tried November through May. Hardware, home improvement, marine dealers are open as well as all grocery stores, gas stations etc. Which was a good thing because after stopping by a small business marine dealer left with a new pontoon boat. If the ice ever goes out, we'll be 'social distancing' from the middle of the lake. But we've lived like that most of our lives.

Flip side of the coin...If the businesses did not shut down, how many lawsuits would there be...You knew the risks and did not shut down! Now gimme my $$$! The ambulance chasers would be having a field day.

One of the goals at this stage of the war (DDay+10?) is to reduce the spread of the virus. Not just person to person but also geographically. This part of social distancing is not being communicated well by either side of the argument. Folks will travel from other regions to fish for salmon in the PNW or stripers on the Hudson River. Not mant travel to another state to ride the bus. Small mountain ski towns are being hit now because skiers from WA and Cali went to ski in states that were open.

Mayor of Las Vegas in the interview was frightening. I thought it was a SNL skit.

Just heard the Mayor of LV speak on FOX. She sounded a lot more intelligent. But I have to think that needing to wear an N95 mask to play the slots would cut attendance.

    You would be surprised...

We had to sign a waiver to wear an N95 mask, and masks were only belatedly enforced for or "guests"(we want their money, and don't them going away mad cause they don't have a mask - tune thankfully changed in 24 hours).

    We worship the almighty dollar.

    2. I never said anyone else was not working--did I? the point should've been clear = the virus is not a magical or monstrous EVIL movie virus--.....people can go to work...in fact, the truth is starting to come out .....

--all the news is about C19 and the DEATHS
    --etc
YES, people ARE saying and thinking the sky is falling --causing monumental economic problems to say the least
---hold it--if you think everything is ok, why do you think the virus is so bad/etc??
    your post:
''''No they are NOT okay, they may not die but those are the ones who infect others.
Over 45,000 thousand Americans have died since January and the number is most definitely going to increase. Just what is an "acceptable number"?''''

..this virus seems to be more deadlier than the flu for the elderly/with existing conditions --as the stats show
....just like a battle, we should use many defenses and offenses/attack it from many angles ....we should focus on those most at risk.....but we should be smart enough to fight it and not go into the biggest Depression ever

Drove to get some necessities. We had 4 yds of mulch delivered so I went with a Sativa. I waited in the hall to be let in as they limit the # of customers in the pot store. Had on my mask and gloves and there were 4 unmasked guys standing 6 ' apart in the line with me. I coughed a little then told the guys not to worry. "They say a cloth mask won't keep you from getting the virus but it will keep you from spreading it if you have it. I think I might have it." I don't know if they could tell that I was smiling under my mask but I could tell from a nervous look their eyes they were hoping I was joking.

Now that antibody testing is coming online we know that 30% of people in Boston have had the virus, and mostly didn't know it. Today, New York released random testing data, 3000 people, so a pretty good study. 14% of upstaters and 21% of the people in the city have had it. I'm sure you'd get similar numbers in Chicago, Detroit and other hot spots. This is all going to very embarrassing when more numbers come online and we can extrapolate the nation as a whole. The simple fact is that this has a much lower death rate than Flu, and these numbers prove that. Of course, we have vaccinations for Flu to contain the spread so this has spread much faster, but when you consider that tens of millions of people have gone through it with only 45,000 deaths, this isn't very dangerous and it was a bad mistake to implode the economy instead of just shielding those at risk.

Governor: Antibody survey shows wide exposure to virus in NY

45k is more deaths than seen annually from the flu...and that's with social distancing.
2996 deaths from the September 11 attacks...with a massive war, at least two countries effectively invaded and billions and billions spent. (not to mention the military deaths from the war) - You mob seem very blasé about dead countrymen if its a virus...but if a person kills you...you'll spare no expense effectively getting revenge.
What the world is seeing is a country too wrapped up in the "me" culture or individualism...not enough collectivism or community mindedness to care about your own countrymen...not a good look people.

It must be my not getting it. 2018-19 flu deaths were 34,200. C19 deaths is at 49000 in only 3 months. That sounds deadly to me but math was never my strong point.

Here in America a life is officially valued at $3 million FWIW.

Too much? Patience is a virtue.

Specifically the disparity in Male/Female numbers and that a substantial majority have other noticeable health issues..

Regardless, it isn't a table thrown out for political grist. Given my professional background, I would find it interesting.

That is an interesting disparity by sex given that Cardiovascular issues are only a few percentage points higher in men vs women. I was a professional salesman, Woman's apparel for a good part of the career.

From another forum that I'm in. Study of infection transmission rates I think. Bold type is the poster. Hes working on developing a vaccine.

I know this is hard for some to understand, apologize in advance to those that grasp this already. USA is a BIG country. Sweden is a SMALL country. In the USA, New York has a LARGE densely pacted population; Montana has a SMALL mostly dispersed population. A better phrased question might have been, "Does all of Western Europe have herd immunity similar to the USA?."

Fun with fractions is cute and all, but tell me how lethal any Flu looks when you sum the cases from the first 6 weeks of the season and then pass it off as a years worth of data.

    https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.04.20.20072413v1.full.pdf

We find that the basic reproductive number R0prior to the implementation of the lockdown was 3.31 (95% CrI: 3.18-3.43). At a national level, thelockdown resulted in a 84% reduction in transmission, with the reproduction number R dropping to0.52 (95% CrI: 0.50-0.55). We forecast that by the 11th May, 3.7 million (range 2.3 - 6.7, whenaccounting for uncertainty in the probability of entering ICU) people will have been infected, representing 5.7% (range 3.5 - 10.3) of the French population (Figure 3E). This proportion will be12.3% (range 7.9-21.3) in Ile-de-France, which includes Paris, and 11.8% (range 7.4-20.5) in GrandEst, the two most affected regions of the country. (Figure 3D, Figure S5). Assuming a basicreproductive number of R0=3.3, it would require around 70% of the population to be immune for theepidemic to be controlled by immunity alone. Our results therefore strongly suggest that, without avaccine, herd immunity on its own will be insufficient to avoid a second wave at the end of thelockdown. Efficient control measures need to be maintained beyond the 11th May was a professional salesman.

Went out to BLM land today to check the sight-in on my M1 Garand. At 200yds it was shooting to the right-mostly off the paper. Had to bring it back to 100yds to get it to print on the target. Once I got it sighted in I was really impressed with the grouping. Almost all of the rounds (21 out of 24) landed in a 2X3" rectangle. This dispite my poor eyesight and the occasional jerking of the trigger. Even more unbelievable was that the ammo was GI surplus from 1942!
