I am a newbie to researching, and would like some hints as where to find more information. I am search for several Canadian soliders, some in the RCAF, some in the army, and aside from the Government site Virtual War Memorial, have found it hard to find any other websites with information to be found. Any hints as to sites where I could find information?

That is part of the problem, I know that two were in the Air Force but have no idea which Squadrons, and One in the army, Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, R.C.I.C., but beyond when they died and when they were buried, nothing. If I could find that out, it would be great. I could write to Ottawa, but in the case of my dad, who lived, I don't have a service number. I was hoping there would be sites that I could look through online.
Hi and welcome pwwbear, What is it exactly what you're looking for? Have these soldiers survived the war? Were they killed? For both categories there are different avenues of research to follow. For the last category, check them at www.cwgc.org see what unit they were from and google the unit for veteran associations and websites. Take it from there. Stevin
Two were killed, one in the air force and one in the army. From various sites, I have found one was an air gunner in the RCAF (no squadron listed)and one was in the army (Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, R.C.I.C., but I do not know what Battalion). I have posted on some sites looking for more info. For the two that lived through the war, one was in the army (no info on that) and I don't know if he is still living, but can find out. I am researching these three for a friend who were relatives, who never really knew about them. The other was my father, who died about 10 years ago. All he would ever say was that he was in the RCAF, and that he spent the war in Newfoundland and on the East Coast. All I have are letters he wrote to my mom. No discharge papers or anything. He never talked about his time in the service, and hated anything to do with war rememberances. I believe alot of it had to do with friends in the army who were killed at Dieppe. I guess doing the reasearch on the others got me curious about my dad. Being able to find out alot about WW1 soldiers, it is more difficult to find on line info about WW2.
