Hello to everyone, I would like to introduce myself to the community. My Name is Patrick Bernabé, aka “Barney”. I’m a retired NCO of the Belgian Army who got stuck in Germany after his career. Two years ago I volunteered to help out a little bit at the Museum “ Hürtgenwald 1944 und im Frieden” (located in Vossenack). While doing some translations in Dutch and French of displayed Items in the museum I got interested in the period from Sep 1944 till Feb 1945 when the so called “Battle of the Hürtgen forest” occurred. Eventually I ran in this website and by I hope to get a deeper and broader view into that period.
Welcome Barney. There are many posts about fighting in the Hurtgen Forest. Do a search (the box on the upper right) and read away.
Very interesting Barney. When I was in ROTC in school in the 60's, one of my instructors had been a platoon leader in the Hurtgen forest and talked about the incessant artillery and having replacements show up at night and telling them to dig in and find they had been killed already by the next morning.
Welcome Barney. It is good to have you here. That was a grisly fight and underappreciated in the west.

Sorry for my late reply but I have for the moment no time to be in the forum. I will give an answer within a couple of days.
