I am working on a gazetteer of the U.S. Army in Britain on 1 June 1944. The locations are from many sources, including the monthly station lists kept by the ETOUSA. High Halden in Kent, is the location of the unit on 1 June 1944. It is a village in Kent, England. It was assigned to the IX Army Air Force Engineer Command, part of the Ninth Air Force, but was attached to the Services of Supply, European Theater of Operations, U.S. Army. It's duties were primarily building airfields.
That may be why I keep seeing an aviation component to this unit on the internet. So they operated out of the uk?

Yes, the actual designation was 851st Engineer Battalion (Aviation). They were in England until they deployed to France where they continued to build and maintain airfields for the Ninth Air Force.
