Personally i think is is a great movie. I want released very widley here in the US, but is on DVD, so i got it. If your not aware DBW, Is about two czeck pilots who escape in 1938 to fly for the RAF, and who are imprisoned by the soviets upon there return. Anyone elses thoughts, opinions?

It's a great film. The Czechs are very proud of their RAF service, so much so that I heard that they had renamed their fighter squadrons after their RAF counterparts.

Yes, must agree, great air battle scenes. Unfortunately lots of romance as well but I just saw the film and liked it.That is, for the air battles.Get it if you can! Includes the kind of stuff that´s in the BoB part of Pearl Harbor.

Sometime last year, It was only a limited release here in the US, it was showing at one of those artsy fartsy theatres here, so i delined to see it in theatres. When it came out on DVD i took a gamble and bought it. It was very good.

CvM, soon as I get some money I'll buy myself a copy. I'm always looking for a good movie to add to my collection. The last one I got was "Full Metal Jacket", not ww2, but one hell of a movie. I just remembered something that might interest you. Next month a winter war reenactment is gonna be held. It is the 2nd time its ever been done. First time is when they did it last February. Here's a link to the site that's hosting the event.

Cool, I used to live in Ft. Wayne. I live by Hammond and Gary now. Sadly its not a public reenactment but if you are really interested in seeing I could make a few calls to see about getting you to it.

The movie was surprisingly good, I think. Especially the situations when the plane hits the ocean were very well done, it really looked real to see the Spitfire hit the sea...Or any other plane do that.

And the final battle, as the other guy was in the sea, and the other tried to drop his life boat but unfortunately flew too low and his Spitfire´s wing touched the water and after that went straight into the ocean...Incredible, stunning and silencing moment...

    :(

Here's the original discussion! I messed it up again, by not researching first... [IMG]

Excellent film in my opinion. The battle scenes are great.

And about the love story and the love triangle. We saw something similar in "Pearl Harbour" and it just sucked! "Dark Blue World" instead, has a very good script, good actings and a general good-story which evolves naturally.

I agree with you, Kai. The last scene in which Karel tries to save his friend is really, really heart-breakening. :(

I will be the black sheep again and say that although I loved it, it hasn't got the replay value of other war movies, PRIMARILY, IMO, because it is a Romance and mateship story 1st, war movie second.

'Dark Blue World' is really excellent. Thinking of Tom Cruise's imminent film about Americans in the Battle of Britain, rather than pay to see that I reckon I'll save my money and buy the DBW DVD instead.

I still "love" to watch the air battle scenes. And one sad thing is to see what happened to these "gladiators" once they returned to their home country- they were sent to prison camps by the communists!!! Totally awful!
