Hi. A short film from the National Film Archive of Japan (NFAJ) about the Type Taisho 11 7 cm Curved-Fire Infantry Gun 歩兵学校 曲射歩兵砲 大正12年2月 | フィルムは記録する - 国立映画アーカイブ歴史映像ポータル - (filmisadocument.jp) Yours tom!
Interesting terminology/translation - "curved-fire gun" for a mortar. It is descriptive of the difference between a mortar and a "flat-fire" weapon.
Hi. Regardind designations the japanese armed forces were very special. Until the mid 1930th all mortars used by infantry units were designated "curved-fire infantry gun". After 1935 the designation was changed to "grenade launcher". The 37 mm infantry guns after the "Sogekiho" were designated "flat-fire infantry guns". Later these guns and the AT-guns were (re-)designated "mobile rapid-fire guns" "Mortars" were exclusively used by artillery units, especially trench artillery units. It´s the same with armor: Only tank units used "tanks". All other units used "armored vehicles". Navy amphibious tanks were designated "special motor launch". SPG: Tank units used "gun tanks" for fire support vehicles, infantry had "weapon carriers" and so on.... Yours tom!
