Edinburgh hosted the Commonwealth Games again in '86 and it nearly bankrupted the place- a complete contrast to the first time in 1970.

 

I was at the 1978 commonwealth games in Edmonton. Good times. I seem to recall Thompson Daily competing against Bruce Jenner.
Which can not be correct.
Maybe memories of 1976 Olympics merged into '78 memories.

Bruce was American. I don't see him listed. There were no Americans at the '78 games Edmonton. Was Commonwealth.
But i seem to remember Bruce and Daily competing in the decathlon.
So, it must have been Daily vs Jenner in 1976.

The Olympics needs a re-set…they should have evolved it every four years…Today’s Olympic sports should IMO, tick one or both boxes…
1. A sport played by at least 300 million people or,
2. A Sport watched by at least 300 million people.
Preferably both. World championships in (most) popular modern sports. My AFL wouldn’t make the cut…I’m not sure American football would either, might be wrong. But pretty much no one else plays either, it would be a massacre anyway.

I’ve pulled 300 million out of my butt…the numbers could change but the idea should be the same.

 

Should hold it permanently in Greece, they invented (and reinvented) it. Same with the football world cup- hold it in Uruguay.
