    Doc,

There is one brilliant movie about the French resistance ; directed by Jean-Pierre Melville who was himself a Resistance member.

Called 'L'Armee Des Ombres' ( Army Of Shadows ) it was shown with subtitles on the BBC over here several years ago and then.. I've never seen it again :( . It's famous, though, and there are websites which discuss it.

If ever you get a chance to see it - do so !

I'd like to see a movie about the battle for Budapest or about the German retreat from Russia and the bloody battles that followed. They would all have to be with German and Russian actors and not Ben Afleck or some other American/English actor.

I was chatting with Otto on icq recently, he mentioned a good subject for a film...Skorzeny! He was a tough dude and had involvement with various pivotal battles. I also can't think of any film that he's in, so he's fresh and unused.

My nightmare would be to see a ponce like Stephen Segal or JC Van Damme play Skorzeny. And you can just bet that someone in Hollywood would think that's it's a good idea. If some fancy-boy like either of those two ever played him, I'd honestly be forced to shoot myself in the skull. I'm serious, right into my thick, chihuahua skull.

Agreed, Peppy - Skorzeny's story is a case of life being more dramatic than fiction.

You're probably right about the casting, too. :( It'd be a bit like 'The Player' where Tim Robbins refuses to have the hero played by someone like Bruce Willis; Robbins gets fired and the film is made with...Bruce Willis.

Maybe it should be a German production in the style of 'Das Boot' ? That way Hollywood wouldn't get to screw it up.... :D

I agree that The fall of Singapore, or fall of Hong kong would be a good subject, not much is done in that area and it was a great success for the Japanese. I would like it done from the Japanese point of view and not the English or American and I would like for a CHANGE to have a REAL plot and not the hollywood crap that messes up most war movies. For example Midway is the all time worse

Absolutely - with the Hollywood historical accuracy of U- 571 ; ie the British win and the Germans have to evacuate the entire Continent in small boats....

Actually there was a very good French version of the Dunkirk battle, black and white, subtitles for us Brits.

Again fromm memory, so forget name, but would very much like to get hold of this one.

Now I'm thinking Skorzeny would be good, and a good political thriller around the plot to dispose of Hitler would rock too.

Peppy, Kai, don't suppose you guys are Hollywood producers are you, eccentric multi-millionaires looking for a movie to fund? :(

A HUGE production about Stalingrad, with two main characters: Vasili Chuikov and Friedrich Paulus. We need to see some 300 million dollars production in which a whole ruined city is built and thousands of stunts and extras are chopped to pieces by Stukas and T-34s. The world must understand the ferocity of the battle and the hell on Earth Stalingrad was; the crossing of the Volga, the fight for the railroad station, for the Mamayev-Kurgan hill, for the tractor factory, the Soviet counterattack, the air-bridge and the final German surrender.

Also, I think James Cameron is about to film his 'titanic' version of the Bismarck. And let me tell you; this guy DOES know how to deal with wrecks and famous ships! And unless it'd be an homoerothic film, NO SILLY LOVE STORY!!! [IMG] [IMG]

Why not mix in some of the parts from Love Boat with the story? It will be great. We can have some goofy stewards and then they can sail to some sunny island. :D

    Best regards/ Daniel

I would love to see that, particularly the scene where the Stringbags torpedo Di Caprios life boat, then strafe the wreckage he is hanging off and then he gets sucked into the still rotating propellers..... sorry, I will keep taking the pills, I just really dont like that guy.

    Stefan's obviously a founder-member of the Di Crapio Fan Club... ;) :D
