Kelly's heroes; when Kelly introduces a plan to Crapgame and suddenly Oddball (Donald Sutherland's most brilliant part ever! [IMG] ) shows up and says (i am guessing here):"You'll probably need some armour support".
Also from Kelly's heroes when Telly Savalas is put to fait accomply and finally agrees to lead his men... [IMG]

Definetly a different sort of choice but the "Oh My Lord" camp revival scene in Glory.

How bout the worst - "Pearl Harbor"- scrambling to get up in Hurricanes only now they're Spitfires!!! Also, I was just watching a destroyer vs. U-boot movie w/Robert Mitchum called "Beneath the Waves?" or something like that.......the U-boot crewmen looked as clean shaven as twelve year old boys and pretty clean as well...ha! ha!

Hi Wilconqr. The excellent movie you speak about is The Enemy Below with Robert Mitchum as the Destroyer Captain and Curt Jurgens as the Uboat Kapitan.

Believe it or not, the vast majority of the Uboat vets I know and have met, chose The Enemy Below, as their favorite of all movies that have to do with Uboats. The U 181 crew at their reunion in Bad Camberg, Germany, voted it as their favorite and partly because the way Curt Jurgens portrayed the Kapitan, reminded them of their last Kapitan--KzS Kurt Freiwald.

The Stuka scene from Enemy at the Gates (part of a recent thread) and the Pearl Harbor scenes from both Tora Tora Tora and Pearl Harbor, and Apocalypse Now (helicopters)

"Platoon" has some very good scenes. The best is the final, chaotic battle near the end of the film, when the NVA are running amok inside the US perimeter and the company commander takes over from the KIA battalion commander and orders an air strike on his own position - with an appropriate expletive - to prevent the NVA from overrunning the entire battalion.

I don't know if I already wrote this; my favorite scene is from the pretty lowkey Bravo Two Zero, when the patrol is compromised and legs it from the Iraqi's after a contact. You see the 8 guys running in line through the desert with their kit, on the music of Phil Collin's In The Air Tonight...

    Great scene....

    {We Were Soldiers}-
The part when they are in the forest and they are camouflaged on the floor, loads of Vietnamese are walking through and as soon as one clicks his gun they are all dead...
Also another scene in We Were Soldiers, the reporter joins the team and he kills loads...
I also liked the bravery of that guy who jumped on top of that grenade...
    {Black Hawk Down}-
LoL, when Orlando falls out of the helicopter  ....
I can't really give a scene, but I liked that guy who defended that shot down helicopter......
These may not be WW2, but I think they are awesome.

In Platoon, there are 2 scenes[both in the final battle]that I don't get. Before the NVA attack, they show an NVA putting a "punchi stick"up in a tree limb hardly 10 steps from Bunny and JR's hole, which JR ran in to.Funny that they got that close before the attack and would'nt you want to run back instead of forward.Secondly, when the air strike comes,is that not napalm they're dropping? If so,why is the jungle full of vegetation afterwards[deer grazing]?What am I missing?Seen it 20 times as it's one of my favs.FramerT.

A few in no particular order.

Stalingrad - After getting arrested and assigned to prisoner squads (?) The main characters lay in wait for the Russian tanks and infantry. Also when GG gets killed :( That film allways gets me, I keep watching it hoping that maybe this time they'll have some luck :(

Saving Private Ryan - Assaulting the machine gun emplacements around the ruined outpost, nasty stuff that.

633 Squadron - The test flights in Scotland.

Memphis Belle - When the bombadier resists dropping early and takes another pass.

Platoon - When the soldiers are terrorising and then burning the village. This was a real moment for me as I first watched it, aged about 14, and thought 'wow'. Then when I watched it a year later I thought 'Oh my god'. I must have done some growing up between viewings.

    Good topic!

All right guys, I need to post here because I've just decided on a new favorite scene:

The Scene in the Movie ZULU where the Zulu's are forming up for a final charge, and begin their primative tribal chant.

Lt. Chard: "Do you think the Welsh can do better Private?"
Private: Hard to say sir, they have a mighty good bass section. No top tenors though, thats for sure."

    *Silence*

Private: "Meeeen of Harlech stop your dreaming, cant you see their spear points gleaming?..

And the whole group joins in.

*I feel a shiver down my spine when i see that scene, it possessed me to purchase the film on DVD.

    Damn good scene

How can you have a favourite scene from in war movie thread and not mention the helicopter attack scene, with Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" playing over the loudspeakers? A fantastic piece of filmaking.

    The Eagle Has Landed.
    =====================

Steiners confrontation with the SS Officer commanding troops overseeing the razing of the Warsaw Ghetto.

"He reminds me of something that I occasionally pick up on my shoe in the gutter! Very unpleasant, on a hot day. And if you have the dubious honor of commanding the senseless slaughter, then I'd advise you to keep him downwind at all times! That is, of course, if you can tell the difference anymore."

Hell Is For Heroes! Final scene of Steve Mcqueen's self-sacrifice by hurling himself and the satchel charge into the bunker. What was that one? Bataan? where the movie ends with a tough as nails soldier manning a MG against Japanese, knowing his end is near. I really liked Revolution with Al Pacino at the end of the battle where woman who fought with cannon crew takes vigil over a somber battfield and sings beautiful song of liberty.
