Is going to be released on DVD in September! I can hardly wait. PS: What are your opinions of this movie?
Go ahead make Snoopy's Day!! Greg PS Clint Eastwood is in that movie right? Or else did I just look insane with that comment?
Yep--Clint is Leutnant Schaffer. Also--Richard Burton is the one in command of the mostly British commando group. I have always loved this movie and get great enjoyment out of it every time. Besides--it doesn't hurt it to be filmed in winter (my favorite time of the year) and it doesn't hurt it to have the scenery it shows in it as well and, I like the fact that it mostly takes place in the Schloss Adler ( Eagles Castle)(?) I already have my copy pre-ordered and pre-paid. Now if they would also release Decision Before Dawn and Hannable Brooks on DVD--i'll be a happy camper.
Just sit back and wallow in that opening scene - Ron Goodwin's score merging with the Ju-52's engines.... I've said it before but this is my absolute favourite 'Boys Own Paper'-type movie; don't take it too seriously and enjoy ! [ 27. June 2003, 08:00 AM: Message edited by: Martin Bull ]
I love the theme music too. I bought a CD that has about 20(?) War Movie musical scores on it. Includes: Kelly's Heroes. Is Paris Burning? Where Eagles Dare. MacArthur/Patton. The Greatest Escape. Midway. The Longest Day. Das Boot. The Battle of Britain. and a bunch more. BTW--the BoB theme in real life is actually The Luftwaffe March. Also--the musicians who did these scores I think is the Polish Harmonic Orchestra (or something like that) and--they are excellent.
Actually, the 'Ju-52' at Cosford is a post-war CASA 352 built under licence in Spain. 'Where Eagles Dare' used one of the Ju-52s still (then) operational with the Swiss Air Force. These aircraft are now operated by Ju-Air of Switzerland, see their website : - http://www.ju-air.com/e/01ju/index.htm
Nice site! I'll have to ask a friend of mine if he's ever been a passenger on one of these. I sure wouldn't mind.
