World War II. Early summer 1944. The vast Russian Front. Through prolonged and pitiless battles the Red Army has pushed the German invaders back, and reached the Western borders of the USSR. The Germans are preparing to continue this grindingly horrific conflict with a major counter-attack. To forestall the expected onslaught, Red Army HQ sends a group of young scouts, aged 23 - 25, behind enemy lines. Their call sign is "star". They find a huge concentration of German infantry and tanks and successfully warn command about the imminent counter-offensive. The young heroes pay for their success with their lives. The Star - an impressive new Russian feature film - tells their story. The film's Director Nikolay Lebedev and film Dramatist Eugeny Grigoryev, wrote the poignant screenplay, based on the book by Emmanuil Kazakevich. ---------- I think the film was out about 2002. Haven´t heard of this before...anyone else? http://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/newsletters/inCamera/oct2002/starP.shtml http://www.mosfilm.ru/index.php?News=2003_0609_01&Lang=eng
I have'nt heard of this movie either but--the pictures and story makes it look like a very impressive movie. I would'nt mind seeing it.
I'll have to look for this movie also, I like to see more films made on russia's accomplishments during the war.
This does indeed look very interesting but I can find no reference at all to a release outside Russia. Surely a subtitled version would be worth the commercial risk for an enterprising distributor ?
Got some friends that visit Russia often. Got to show them this and ask for a copy if possible ...there´s another movie called " cuckoo" which was rather big-seller in Russia. I haven´t heard of that in Finland either though the main man role was played by a Finn. ( Cuckoo= slang for Finnish sniper ). I wonder why the Russians aren´t trying their movies out of the country?
Wow!ALready two years since last mentioned this... Nope, did not see it anywhere but hoping someone else has!
The comment "pay for it with their lives", does that mean they were caught and killed by the Germans or in typical Russian fashion that they somehow had to die at Russian hands because of their discovery?
Here is the IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0326450/ And here you can buy it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009UKV5U/102-6851615-0708926?v=glance&n=130&n=507846&s=dvd&v=glance

Zvezda is fantastic, it is actually (I believe) a re-make of a much older film which was equally good. The soldiers are Razvedchiki, predecessors of todays Spetznaz and bloody tough blokes from the sound of it. Watched the original in Russia last year and I've seen the new one since. Great stuff but I'm not sure how easy it is to get it with subtitles. Maybe Slava can help us out?
I have heard good things about this movie but have not been fortunate enough to see it. Dont know much abou this movie but Razvedchiki was great.
I have a cousin in Kazakhstan, maybe he could check on these movies for me? I'll email him right now!
