Hi TA, yep, i've seen NTFS several times. It's a nice change of pace. This movie also has: Nick Adams, as Andy's Airforce Buddy. The part with Don Knotts, as the Corporal that is trying to give Andy his Dexterity Test, is hilarious. I agree, the toilet seats scene was also hilarious. Did you guys know that there was also a Tele-play of NTFS? This one had a slightly diffenent cast and was a bit shorter than the movie. I wish these would be released on DvD. Im not sure if I still have either version on VHS or not? I haven't seen the movie where he was on a Coast Guard Cutter. Will have to check it out if ever shown? Do any of you remember the short-lived series he did back in the early to mid 1970's called: Salvage 1? I'd love to see that on DvD as well. Also, here's a bit of trivia for you: Did you know that Andy Griffith despises that series he was in where he was an Attorney? When he is asked about that show, he denies ever being a part of it.
Hi Jeff, I've watched: "A Face in the Croud" before but, it was so long ago that I don't remember anything about it. However, recently on TCM (rather, about 6 monght ago) they played another Andy Griffith movie that I had not seen since it came out. This one is called: "Angel In My Pocket" or something like that? Anyway, Andy was a Preacher, with a wife and I think three children. This movie was a light-hearted one and was OK to watch. Anyway, back to "A Face in the Croud." This movie is usually played on TCM on Andy Griffith's Birthday. It was on not too long ago but, I did not have time to watch it.
Quite welcome, and you don't have to call me sir if you don't want to ;-)) Anyway, it's hard for me to choose a certain one best John Wayne Western. But, some that I do favor more over some others are: Stagecoach, Fort Apache, Rio Grande, Hondo, El Dorado, The Searchers, Allegheny Uprising, Rio Lobo and Big Jake. :-D
Went to Best Buy recently and bought a 3 pack deal of WWII movies for $20. I got Patton, The Longest Day, and 12 O'Clock High. I had already seen Patton and the Longest Day, love them both, but had never seen 12 O'Clock High. Now it's one of my favorite WWII movies.
'Twelve O'Clock High' is a great, great film - IMHO the only one which comes close to recapturing the 8th AF's war.
I will admit, at first I thought "Oh great, one of these long talkie talkie movies that put you to sleep". And within the first 15 minutes my eyes were glued to the screen. It's not an action flick like many (including me) would anticipate, but it surely makes good on the physcologicaly affects inflicted on the airmen and the pressure the commanders took during the war.
Completely concur with Martin about Twelve O'Clock High. Gregory Peck, Millard Mitchell, Dean Jagger and Gary Merrill, were all most excellent; in this movie. I also have a great 8x10 B&W studio photo of Gregory Peck as Brigadier General Frank Savage wearing his flying gear. Also, this movie is one of my favorites because my father served with the 8th A.F in B-17's as a Ball Turret Gunner. Forgot to mention, I watched: Santa Fe Trail this morning. This movie stars Errol Flynn as Lt/Capt, J.E.B. Stuart, Ronald Reagan as Lt/Capt, George Armstrong Custer, the beautiful: Olivia de Havilland and Raymond Massey as the Abolitionalist: John Brown. Fact: Did you know that Raymond Massey played the part of John Brown in four movies that had this character in it?
Ha Ha go Red Sox Willow Run one B-24 every 63 minutes, hoping to see my father in law, he was there before he shipped out to Guam to work on 24s. The file footage from the PBS WWII series is good. Then maybe Battleground or Go For Broke or They Were Expendable....
Just watched The Great Raid last night, pretty good flick. i enjoyed the perfection of the tactics used in the movie anyway, lol.
Currently watching season 2 of: The Andy Griffith Show. Sometime soon, I will be watching The Winds of War and War and Remembrance maxi-series - when they come in from Deep Discount DvD. ;-D
Another war film on CH5 on Saturday! must be war movie night and last weekend were a load of old buffers blowing up three German ships yes it was SEA WOLFS.
I have that movie on DvD. It's been awhile since I last saw it but, I remember it was a decent movie. Anything with Gregory Peck and Roger Moore etc, have my double thunbs up. Still watching season 2 of: The Andy Griffith Show. If any of you are fans of the show, right now is the time to start buying it. WalMart selles the first 4 seasons at about $19.95 each. That's a steal.
Nothing on last night so I put my DVD on and watched DOWNFALL which has to be the greatest film ever.
I've just watched the episode of Dad's Army where the platoon dress up as Germans for a training film.
Watched: Battleship Potempkin when premiered on TCM on Sunday. Starting Season 3 of The Andy Griffith Show and saw The Fog, on AMC this morning.
