Not WW2, but watched the new series of French cop show Spiral II on the BBC on Sunday.
Even with subtitles, it's like the good old days of The Sweeney...and it's got the gorgeous Audrey Fleurot.
    I like French birds, me......:D

I watched "Switch" last night. Not bad. It was about a cad who gets capped by his girlfriends, and when he goes to heaven, the "Big G" sends him back with a mission to accomplish before getting the greenlight to come back and stay. Of course Satan protests and haves God put a twist on the mission to make things even. Check it out when you can.

Sapphira & Steel...Just been watching adventures 1 & 2. That second adventure is creepy and that bit where the darkness is in sapphire turning her eyes jet black! First time I saw that was back in the 1970's/80's on ITV as a kid made me jump.

I watched "Tender Mercies" the other night. Two Oscars were won by that movie if you can believe it. I can't. Robert Duvall got one for best actor, he did a good enough job in it I guess. The other one was for writing or something like that. 1983 must have been a lame year for movies.

Last night at work I watched "The Longest Day" again. Always a pleasure to sit through that one. Another bit of trivia about this is Red Buttons, who played the 82nd ABN guy who got hung up on the church spire. Buttons was between projects, and was vacationing in Paris, and ran into Darrell Zanuck in a cafe. After chit-chatting, Zanuck offered him a small part in the production, which was probably the part that he was best remembered for afterwards.

I have read in other threads and forums calling for a re-make of this classic. I say no way Hosea! It was a great movie, but there are plenty of untold stories of WW2 that need to be put into the movies.

I too would HATE to see a remake of The Longest Day. I'd almost bet they would put that a-hole gEORGE cLOONEY in Dukes role of Lt.Col. Benjamin Vandervoort-which would totally ruin it for me. ANd what would be even worse is, if they also had alec baldwin in it as Teddy Roosevelt Jr and the movie directed by oliver stoned and or martin scorcese or even worse than those two put together-quenten tarantino. For the role of the Lt.Col-i'd ONLY accept Mel Gibson or Tom Hanks. One of the only Directors i'd accept for a remake-would be Clint Eastwood.

Forgot to mention that I saw The Black Legion, which had Bogie in it as well as Dick Foran and Ann Sheridan in it.

Tonight I watched the two greats; Bogie and Edw.G.Robinson in: Brother Orchid. Though this is a crime/gangster movie, it has some comedy relief throughout the movie-which si nice ;-)) Also in this movie is John Litel-who was a great character actor-who seemed to appear in a million movies during the day ;-))

Last night I watched the new History Channel show Mystery Quest. I wasn't to suprised to find that it was about wether or not Hitler really died in the bunker. Too much of the story was skipped, and what was mentioned was highly distorted. Seemed more like a consiracy show than anything. I have lost what semblance of respect I had for the network last night when I began to suspect for the first time that they were outright lying and distorting facts. They have always got stuff wrong, but this seemed intentional.

Either way, they decided from DNA that the skull fragment Russia claims is Hitler's is in fact that of a woman, not Hitler.

    Tonight a Foreign import.

The first movie of a Samurai Trilogy. The first is: Musahi Miyamoto which stars Toshio Mifune (A favorite Japanese Actor of mine). Most probably don't know who he is but, he was in classics like: Midway as Adm Yamamoto, In Swiss Family Robinson as the "head" Pirate who attacks Sir John Mills family, The Seven Samurai, as the Samurai in charge, and also notable in Hell To Eternity as the Japanese General who surrenders his remaining troops to Guy Gabaldon (Jeffrey Hunter) IMO, Mifune was one of the all time great actors. This American fan of his greatly misses him.

He sure was, and im going to order that movie sometime.

Just this morning, a classic movie made from a classic Steinbeck novel: Of Mice and Men-which has Burgess Merideth, Lon Chaney Jr, Bob Steele and Noah Beery Jr. Great movie and this ranks up there along with The Grapes of Wrath-another Steinbeck classic made into a movie ;-))

Hi Richard, pretty good movie aint it?

Tonight by chance, I saw some Buster Keaton greats which were: Sherlock Jr, and STeamboat Bill Jr. S/Boat Bill Jr is the one that has the very famous scene in it where he is standing in front of a building whose wall collapses on him but narrowly misses hitting him as he is standing in the spot where the window was so he isnt hit. Its been said that that was an unplanned scene in that if you watch his emotions - you will see that "Old Stone Face" actually shows real emotion at what happened.

On right now is Dr. Strangelove. Can't get more classic Cold War that this movie. ;-)) Peter Sellers was great in all three of his roles in this movie-as the US President, an RAF Officer and a Wheelchair bound mad ex-Nazi Scientist.
