Gordon, im a big Trevor Howard fan as well as of course-Sir Mills et el. How was that movie? I have seen Air Force a couiple times over the years. Been a long time since the last viewing but I THINK it has John Garfield and Arthur Kennedy in it???

Fal, glad you finally saw Defiance. I liked it from beginning to end but was slightly dissappointed because I had thought that they would show them do more Partisan stuff but, as for the movies contents, im still very satisfied with it ;-))

Forgot to mention that im still working my way through season 1 of: Bewitched. Ill be starting episode Nr 19, later this evening. I always liked the guy who played Darren (Dick York) better than his replacement (Dick Sargent)

 

Recently watched Biruma no Tategoto, "The Burmese Harp" (1956) directed by Ichikawa Kon. Brings out a quality not seen in films as of late.

Air Force (1943)
The Trevor Howard film was good, since he was cast against type as an incompetent officer who had already been courtmartialled once and was given the worst ship in the navy as a chance to redeem himself.

 

Thanks mate ;-)) Also, let me know if you cant get a copy of it on DvD? Its out and I can get one cheaply enough. I still need a copy of it myself.

Oh and heres one that I think you will enjoy if you ever saw it? Its: The Purple Heart, and stars Dana Andrews and Marshall Thompson. Its about a bomber crew who gets shot down over Japan and they are captured and tortured and such. For a wartime "propaganda type" movie, its very well made. I forget whom else is in it? possibly George Tobias and Alex Nicol???

 

Tis a good film. In our house we collectively call this "Jews in the woods with James Bond" after my attempts to get everyone to go and see it at the cinema failed. They prefer something more gentle or even mindless.

I've just seen "Predators"; boomzapkapowzingkaboom! etc which was okay for what it is, a little disappointed in the lack of a Brit charactor, but then again not so.

 

This evenin on TCM is JOhn Ford Westerns that were hot in Monument Valley night. I started off watching Oh My Darling Clementine. On now is Sergeant Rutledge, and after this is Duke in: The Searchers ;-)) Im sittin in the tall Cotton of great entertainment this evening :-D

Hi Ray, ive seen that movie a cuople of times and its a good oen. I THINK it might now be out on DvD? cant remember? Anyway, von Werra was killed in combat later on and as an RKT.

Also, thanks for reminding me of this movie. Its not listed in leonard maltins book of movies.

 

Tonight on TCM, is Gregory Peck night. It started off with one of the best Wooden Warship movies ive ever seen-which was: Captain Horatio Hornblower-which also had Robert Beatty in it. Great movie ;-))

 

Finally saw To Kill a mocking bird, Carl. I read the book at school, but never managed to see the film until now. I prefer it to the book.
Also saw The Eve of St Mark, a fairly standard wartime flag-waver, but not too bad. Strange to see Vincent Price in a non-horror role!

 

The Tuskegee Airmen (1995) (TV)

I think they could remake this with the modern technology. I know the core of the film is not the air battles but still..

To Kill A Mockingbird is an excellent Greg Peck movie. I admit that its been just maybe a year or so ago that I finally got to see it all the way through. Its been said that this was Pecks favorite movie he made.

I forgot to mention that if you like Vincent Price in non jhorrow movies, he diod one with Charles Bronson I think was called: Master of the World? or somethingg like that? It was a well made and decent movie from what I saw-which was only about the last 30 minutes or so. Anyway, Bronson rebels against him in the end.

Another non horror film for him was one TCM showed last week which had him as a Catholic Bishop or somehting? and this was also a Greg Peck film set in post WWII China. I thought it was a pretty good movie having not seen it dfrom the beginning.

Just finished watching Sunset Boulevard. What a corker!

 

Hi mate, quite welcome and, im finally starting to recover financially from moving so, I might be able to get those 12 DvDs to you in Aug.

 

Just saw the movie of the Caine mutiny again on cable. It gets better after seeing it again. The court martial scene is good, especially so with the way the actor playing the Caine skipper broke down. Top notch cast and acting. Though the scene on the carrier, at least for me, was a bit overdone for showing the crew scampering about. It was too prearranged for me.
