    Hey all,
Wondering if anyone out there knows of any vendors producing Volkssturm armbands? I know of one, but I'd like to check out others if anyone else produces them.

I normally don't look at repo sites but--I think both SOLDAT and an der front both have repo Volksturm armbands.

    Thanks Carl,
Knew about SOLDAT, but didn't know ATF had one. I'll check it out.

Whilst we are on the subject, you remember me telling you that my father was doing a Volkssturm impression, he has got his kit together and will be giving it its premier this weekend. He is going for the 'old soldier' look, a VERY tattered tunic and trousers, boots, civilian putties with a civilian belt, ammo pouch, tornister on y-straps with a greatcoat wrapped around it. He has an SA breadbag and a bottle, all of this is topped off with a tatty old civilian hat and an arm band. I will show you a couple of photos as soon as I get them, it looks the business.

Sounds good. Can't wait to see the shots.

I've gone a new direction in finding first person info on Volkssturm.

I don't think I'll be able to contact any of them directly, and I've gotten a few replies from relatives of Volkssturm vets.

So, now, I'm going to be adding questions on my veteran questionnaires to US and German vets. If they ran into any VSM during the war, I can get their accounts. Should be interesting.

    Rip,
I look forward to seeing your volksturm impression one day. I know it'll be good. Next time I see you at a reenactment I won't look like the farb I was at the movie shoot. No more waking up late and not brining half my kit. Do you plan on hitting up any events in the near future?

The impression is coming slow, but it's getting there. Right now I'm working out some questions for US and German vets that may have run into Volkssturm during their time in Europe.

You honestly didn't look THAT bad at the shoot

Where were you guys for the second round of shooting? Doc and I were the only ones there from the original shoot. He just did some more close up shots.

    Next events, let's see...
Next Saturday we'll be at Ft. Ben Harrison for a small one day display

I'll be a Russkie at the Ostfront battle at the end of this month.

We're hoping to debut our VSM impressions at Lowell in December.

The BoB event at Neoga again in January.

That's all for now. Got any good things lined up?

I'll be the ostfront event this month. My unit is the one putting it on and we might have our 251 running in time for it. We finally purchased a new clutch plate, now we just need to get it and install it. Its gonna be a long weekend when it arrives.

We'll be seeing you there then. I'll be one of the masses charging your lines. I promise I'll go easy on you, but can't swear for the others :D

It's funny that isn't it, we did a partisan thing ago and I am sure the one phrase I heared most that day was 'where the Fork did they come from????' As a hoard of Partisans and Russian soldiers would stream down a hillside or what everyone thought to be a solid tree line errupted in flame. Actually my best moment was when a grenade rolled out from under a bush, scared the crap out of me and I vaulted a 5 foot pile of logs to get away from it.

I'm looking forward to a huge "Urrah" charge. I've seen an estimate of how many Russkies/Polski's will be there, and that should be impressive.

Sooooo...Stefan. How are those shots of your father coming?

Just today I have made some collar rank tabs for a Volkssturmman. A little more tweeking to them, and I should have them on my overcoat tonight, if I can fit it into my other "need to do's" of continued VSM info compiling, working on my book, getting ready for a display this weekend, and taking care of the baby.

Ok, well it seems he let everyone take photos of him but didn't take one himself. His kit was fairly basic, army tunic (suitably battered) and trousers with civilian putees and boots, a civilian hat and some items of field gear, plus an arm band. I will have to take some photos soon and stick them on my site.
