Well my son has done it! He bought me some models and now I am committed to modeling. It looks interesting so I will let you know how it goes. Wish me luck!

Sorry to have been out of touch for so long.....

Regardless, glad to see that modelling runs in the clan over there; please let us know if we can be of any assistance.

Glad to see our top scoring fighter pilot back from the Russian Front. I see you did manage to escape from that Gulag that was located beyond the Urals--good show wot.

Glad to see you back--that is :D

Yes - what category did you guys dive into? Aircraft? Armor? Figures? Or was it modeling in general?

Regardless, the quality of kits these days is first class. When I was a tot, my first kit was a snap-together P-51 and it was the latest in model technology at the time. I recently ran into it (or what was left of it)while clearing the basement last month, and I thought: "what was I thinking?!?"

Erich--all kidding aside but, I was wondering if you have seen that 12 inch figure of E.A.Hartmann that Dragon has for sale? its a beaut and is accurate to his pilots outfit.

Just thought I would let you know. Also, I had ordered one from a Canadian dealer several months ago and it still has not arrived :(

Carl, I'm just starting to find out about these Dragon figures. Didn't know they had one for "moi" [IMG]

Check out the Fallshirmjager one with my post in the General topic. There's a few on Ebay as we speak.

Yep, and they have an Erwin Rommel fig, and a Michael Wittmann and Bobby Wohl fig set. Also, my favorite--a Uboat Commander fig--which resembles the 2nd watch officer on U 181, but is of a KC commander. I definately want that figure too.

Sorry all for not replying. I did not know I had replies to this topic. We started with something easy. His interest was initialy in cars. For me of course, the cool stuff. I started with a PAK38 with Utility vehicle. They both came with figures. That is the hardest part along with the tiny parts for the PAK. It was fun. My son said the cars were too easy and is eying a model of the Tirpitz! Talk about challenging. As for me, I am moving towards a StuG40 if I can find it.

Tamiya Tamiya Tamiya. By far and away one of the best companies out there. They cover almost all bases: aircraft, armor (particularly their Kubelwagen kit), Ships (I believe thay have the infamous Tirpitz), and figures.

Sounds like the little guy is forging right ahead. Let him go through a few kits before you go Tamiya, as they are a bit pricey. Then you might be able to use an airbrush at this point. But for now, this is neither here nor there.

I used to build Tamiya, Esci, Revell, Preager, and others like MPC etc. If I remember correctly, Revell still has a good Tirpitz model--and I think its the same one I built when I was about 10. Thing had many dozens of smaller weapons to put into place. I swear that I never thought I would get them all in place.

This model went the same way as the real ship did. I got tired of having it by the time I was 15, and I put it into a large open tank filled with water. I took my BB-Gun and shot it full of holes, till it went bye-bye.

I forget who it is that had a cool cutaway model of a Uboat. I had that one when I was about 15, and I think it was a type VII-C. The several cremen it came with were so tiny I had to use a magnifying glass to mount them correctly.

So you scuttled your Tirpitz, eh?

Glad to see YOU didn't commit suicide (like Tirpitz' captain off the South American coast)

E.H. I completely forgot about this thread and sorry for not answering. Yep--the ship though never actually sinking as it was plastic, did break apart into many dozens of pieces.

    Hallo, gentlemen!

I am very interested on modelling, specially 1/72 scale. I have built a lot of things but nearly I destroyed nearly all of them playing some years ago when I was still a terrible kid (like the one in Toy Story I) :D My first modelling was a Ju-52 which I loved, then built several little carriers. Then, when I was 11 (7 years ago...) I built the most difficult but prettiest kits, big models of RMS Thermophylae and USS Constitution. All the masts and sails where exhasuting to built...

But at the momment I build models finely, I paint them (which I did not use to do) and keep them steady. I have now a Me-262, a Fiat 50 (which is lovely), a Me-110 (my favourite aeroplane) and I have just built a Ju-87 (German version), I wanted to build the Italian version... I am most keen on building aeroplanes than other thinks. I do not like tanks that small... But I like painting same scale soldiers. I also built a dioram with a crahed Spitfire and little RAF medical lorries. Also I painted a little marshall Rommel and a little Halder. I also have a 6 pounders British gun. All in 1/72... ;)

I am interested in building 1/72 too. My dad bought be a HO scale railroad when i was 11 years old (about 7 years ago) and in the last year I got an idea, get a WW2 era steam engine and make a battle around it. I am buying up guys, tanks, plans, almost anything I can get my hands on. One problem, I don't know any types of trains from WW2 (never really got interested in trains, I like military stuff that's why im doing this). Anyone out there know of a train engine in HO scale that I can buy?
