These are some of my grandpa's WWII photos. I wonder (and hope some will) if anyone will recognize a relative here. These are from a USO event in 1942. Note one of the men in the photos is holding a video camera--I wonder where the video could be found:
I don't recognize anyone, but these are great photos. I believe Falkenburg received a campaign medal for her work with the USO. She was the top model in America for a time and you can see why. Your grandfather must have been on Cloud 9.
Those are great photos. Thanks for sharing them. Do you have the location of the photos and/or your grandfather's unit?
I believe it was either in Panama at or around Fort Kobbe, or at the Presidio of San Francisco. His military records are scant; most were lost in the 1973 fire. His medical records along with his DD-214 and a few military records survive, and my family and I have pieced together his service from that. He was transferred around quite a bit seems, so he was either in one of the following units at the time of the photos: 83d C.A.(A.A.) EM PC Dept Service Unit 2145 (USO Show Nov 1942) QMC Sec. S.C.U. 1927 (volunteered paratroops) He spoke VERY little of his service even to my grandmother and as he died in 1975 in his mid 50s, probably a good deal of information about his service or his experiences therein will sadly never be known. But I know for a fact based on both his documents and personal effects that he was well acquainted with the Presidio of San Francisco. He even retained, which we still have, the army guide to the sights and whatnot of S.F. that he was given, along with his library card from the Presidio and a book he bought there with the YCMA department of the Army called "Why America Fights" by Sherwood Eddy. He kept all his stuff in a leather duffel bag which we still have and he seemed to treasure his army years; All of his stuff is in pristine condition despite being 70 or so years old. So I think it is quite likely that the pictures were taken at the Presidio.
