I need some help with some specs of the 1991 Persian Gulf War. I'm doing some extensive research on the Iraqi military specs, and I was wondering what fighter jet models the Iraqi air force had during the war? plus, who developed them? and where was developed? Also, would it be a pain to ask what kind of tanks they had and where did the Hussein regime bought them from? Can anyone compare them to American military stats too?
This is way from being my area, downfall, but in 1991 Iraqi ground forces were equipped mainly with Soviet T-72 main battle tanks and BMP armoured personnel carriers. They also deployed French-made ( ) GCT self-propelled howitzers. The T-72 tanks were acquired largely in parts over a number of years and were assembled locally - coming from Rosvooruzhenie, the Russian arms export agency, via the United Arab Emirates.
This link might prove of interest. https://www.infantry.army.mil/donovan/content/monograph.htm It houses a lot of (military) studies into different conflict, including the 1st Gulf War. The different US Military sites are very busy lately with putting on-line many of these studies, many after the abttle studies or thesis by Academy students. Many very interesting titles. Also try the Carlisle Barracks website.
Try this book: Lessons of Modern War: The Gulf War v. 4 by Anthony H. Cordesman and Abraham R. Wagner It is a superb account of the military side of the conflict.
