43rd Infantry 169th Combat Regiment 1542 Mortar Platoon

    Looking for anyone that served with a man named 1st Lieutinant George W. Snavely in the 1542 mortar platoon. I have his uniform and i have met his wife.

    Not sure about the unit numbers you gave.

    I'm guessing 169th Infantry Regiment of the 43rd Infantry Division is correct and what you meant. Not sure what the 1542 Mortar Platoon was. Platoons were not usually numbered like that unless they were some unique platoon. I don't find a 1542nd anything related to artillery. Perhaps he was in one of the Heavy Weapons Companies (Cos D, H or M) of the 169th or possibly a Chemical Mortar Battalion attached to the 43rd or 169th, but the Chem Mortar Batt were not numbered that high.

    he was in the signal corps in the 43rd infantry division. he was a commander of a mortar platoon. his job was the forward observer.

    The History of the 43rd ID states that Company B, 82nd Chemical
    Bn, was attached to the Division in March 1945 in Luzon.

    he did serve in luzon for a couple of months
