Does anyone know of a website that might be able to produce links through to the various fighter groups in the 9th. AF ? Marlin.
Hmmm, having just checked that a bit more thoroughly myself it seems that the list of 9th AAF FGs is there but only the 474th FG has a link at all. Your best option may be to print the list and Google the various FG Associations manually. Far more time consuming, but if the 9th AAF site doesn't have direct links itself I would imagine that other sites wouldn't eitehr.
Apologees for the triple post, but I started googling for the sites for the 9th AAF's FGs manually and came up with this site: http://www.web-birds.com Whilst it's not exhaustive and it would appear that there are a fair few omissions there, it would appear to be a good start.
9th. AF Thanks, Simon, for the really helpful suggestions you have made. They are great sites and are now in my favourites file on my PC. Sod's law being what it is, though, the one fighter group I am especially intersted in would appear to be one of the omissions. If you discover any links into the 370th FG 9 AF I'd be really obliged. Cheers, Marlin.
Unfortunately all I've been able to find is a brief account of the 370th: http://www.armyairforces.com/dbgroups.asp?Group=191 Why this unit in particular may I ask?
370th. FG Thanks for the link, Simon. As to why this group, well, that is a bloody long story which starts back in June 1944 when bits of a pair of this group's P-38's crashed onto a hotel in Stockbridge, Hampshire where my parents ( then only courting ! ) were staying (even as I sit here now at my PC I am looking at the broken off big-end from an Allison engine con-rod which my Dad levered out of the roof of his car. My family got to know many of the air and ground crews of the three squadrons on this group very well, but since my Old Man died back in '88 I have lost touch with many of them. If they have a website I may be able to renew the contacts. Cheers, Marlin.
You could try contacting the 9th AAF association itself and see if they can provide any non-electronic information for the 370th FG Association. There's a section at the bottom of the 9th AAF's home page that says: If you have questions or wish to drop us an e-mail contact The Military History Group at info@usaaf.com It might take a while (Especially considering the time of year), but it's got to be worth a shot.
370th. Fighter Group Simon, you old bugger ! I owe you one-BIGTIME !!! As a result of your kind leads I have just this past minute found the one guy I really wanted to get in touch with. He is Jay Jones, an American who wrote a year or so ago a book called "The History of the 370th. Fighter Group in WWII " In a small way I helped Jay with his book ( I am proud tosay that I have an acknowledgement inside ), and due to a PC crash recently I had lost both his recent mail to me and his email address. I then surfed the forum you suggested and, bugger me, there was an email from him enquiring about a -38 that went down in Germany very late in the war. So, I have now been able to email him and await his reply. Many thanks, Marlin
