    Hmmmm.

George Preddy, flying P-51s was killed on Christmas Day 1944 whilst on the deck chasing a Focke-Wulf. It was a regrettable friendly-fire incident as he was brought down by American AA-fire.
He was an ace with 26.8 kills.

Tommy McGuire, flying a P-38 violated a few of his own cardinal rules--during a bounce of Japanese planes--and found himself too low, without sufficient airspeed, and still carrying drop-tanks when his Lightning shuddered, stalled and crashed into the jungle. He was second leading ace in-theatre behind Dick Bong.
Some claim it was due to one of the Japanese being a very experienced pilot, and others note that he "almost" saved his plane, as he had pulled-out of the dive, but ran-out of air-space.
He was an ace with 38 kills.

While not exactly fitting your criteria...
Still, the loss of an ace not by enemy fire, so perhaps that will qualify?
