air battle on the eastern front

    A book I read said than the yak3 was a better plane than theFW180 or
    the ME109e is it bull or real ?

    I take it that you mean the Fw 190, and that you don't actually mean the old Bf 109E...

    For a start, it would depend on which version of the German fighters you are considering, and then on which type of conflict - high or low altitude?

    The Yak-3 was an extremely agile fighter with an excellent performance at low level. It seems to have been highly regarded by its pilots, and would indeed probably have given any other fighter a very hard time - at low level. At high altitude I suspect that the contemporary German fighters would have eaten it.

    If memory serves the Luftwaffe issued an order to its pilots to avoid dogfighting with the Yak 3 at low-level.

    Basically, Tony is pretty much on the money (as ever :) ).

    The Russians were lethal at low altitudes, whatever planes they flew. They specialized in low level fighting, far more than the Western air forces.
