Starting two hours ago a student of a school entered the school and started shooting other students. No definite number of the dead or wounded have been given yet but the police talks of tens of injured. The killer shot himself in the end.

This sucks. Kids these days need to relize that their problems are not that bad. I truly hope that the lowlife scum who did this is the only one who die's. I also wish that it isn't like here in the states. When something like this happens here, about a dozen other kids who are "considering" a similar act will now follow through with their disgusting plans. Prayers for the families of the victims

Sounds like Finland is turning into the next USA? I think this is the 2nd or 3rd time this sort of thing has happened in the past year in Finland isn't it?

With the small population (in comparison to USA) there must be something in the water  but seriously, what does shooting up a school solve? Clearly it doesn't solve anything, and causes more grief then existed before. I'll keep an eye on the news for this one.

    2nd time within a year.

It is pretty clear looking at the shooters pictures and videos that he is copying Pekka Auvinen ( the other school shooter.)

Very sad day again for Finland, twice within a year. I hope it'll never happen again.

Edit: The shooter died of his injuries.

    Yes,

    a very sad situation indeed.

I read the shooter had put a video on friday in the youtube about him shooting but it did not have any threats on it. The Police had questioned him yesterday but could not find any reasons to take away the gun. This might have triggered the plan, who knows.

The shooter also put a "massacre video" on youtube one hour before the shooting started.

It seems we need metal detectors in our schools from now on...though cannot be sure if that´s the 100% proof answer, really.

I think I also read that you only have to be 15 to buy a gun over there? That is amazingly young for such a responsibility!

    Again sympathies to the innocent.

"It" dieing from his injuries is the only acceptable part.

If I were in charge of his medical team, I would have called in a specialist from, um, China, ya China; and I would have put an armed guard around him to protect him from unqualified people touching him until the specialist got there.

I just heard about this on the news before leaving house today. I HOPE they burn this dork at the steak-then boil those remains in oil-IF the oil could be afforded?

I'll never understand why some sicko just HAS to take out innocents instead of just itsself?

Hi Kruska, none taken. I don't have time to really explain but, I used to work with these types for a few years when I worked at the M.H.M.R. - Mental Health and Mental Retardation offices locally. It's much more than just being mentally ill-I refuse to be PC about this and use their other terminology for this.

Our local paper, apparently following a newswire report, claimed the shooter used "a 22 Millimeter handgun". Now, that's some handgun! Maybe it would help if handguns were restricted to no more than .50 caliber?

Definitely a relationship, but must say the figures have gone down almost dramatically due to the new medications during the last ten years. The treatment methods, I think, are much the same, but new mediations work better and are definitely less dangerous in overdose cases.

The killer left a farewell note saying he hated the world and all people deserved to die, in this case by his gun. He also belonged to some kinda net group ( IRC?) called people haters. Their goal seems to be annihilation of the people and I cannot say whether they have other cells around the world just waiting for the right time. Anybody beloging to that group should be carefully monitored´, I guess, if they fantasize of this kinda massacre....

I just heard in the news that in Canada somebody had held 300 pupils hostage but fortunately nobody died. We´ll probabaly see more of this during this week as the news spread around the globe, unfortunately.

Metal detectors in Finland? I always thought of this country as a school paradise. We always refer to the Finns and their educational system. Polite pulpils, no locks on bikes needed, free food at school (wel paid by the taxpayer let's say it that way) , small numbers in the classrooms, I even saw them take off their shoes before going in the classroom.... So what happened these last years???

After the early 90´s depression guess who started making smaller budgets for schools, health care. Privatized post office, trains etc. No wonder some " weirdos " are not found until it´s too late....And after the latest one our politicians keep on speaking forbidding hand guns from private owners instaed of making the psychiatric help better....
