B-24 crash and attack at Chambord france 1944

I am trying to gather information about 2 incidents that took place around Chambord France in 1944. I would like to know if anyone has any information about 2 airmen (W Kalan, K Klemstine) that survived the 6/22/1944 crash of their B-24 (tail # 42-52759) at Chambord, France. Where did they hide during the 2 months before meeting up with the advancing allied troops? Also, does anyone know where I might find the German combat reports on the German attack, burning of buildings, and killing of 5 residents in Chambord 8/21-27 1944? One of my relatives was the priest in the town, and I am trying to gather all the information that I can. Any and all help is appreciated.

No worries - it has been a while since I have had time to gather anything. Whenever you have time I would appreciate any help you might have. I wish i was there to help - I've always wanted to come over and visit Chambord, Paris and all of my Gilg relatives in the Alsace region.

 

Wow - that Exhibition looks fantastic - i would love to see it, and I'm sure it would add greatly to my research. Maybe I'll have to plan a trip out there to visit!

I have recently found copies of French war reports that my relative, Canon Gilg, submitted for a war trial back in the 1940's. They list a German Major Leye as the person responsible for executing the civilians and the attack on Chambord August 21-25 1944. Does anyone have any German military reports on this incident, or have any information on this German Major Leye?

Nothing that I do not know already Erich , not to to mention the mistakes taken from elswhere. For instance the Macr mentions the B-24 crashed in the Channel and that they were heading back home, whereas they were flying south.

 

The MACR I have in my photo album states that the plane crashed "1800 hrs - Village of Montlivault, near Blois". I have booked our trip - I will be out in France in late April to see the exhibit at Chambord!

Kalan was likely nominated anonymously in 2008 for the Legion of Honor. Kalan and his family believe someone they met while touring the SS Jeremiah O'Brien, a restored World War II ship, during Fleet Week in San Francisco contacted the French government. Kalan told his story while aboard that ship and was notified soon afterward that he was being considered for the medal.

We had a wonderful visit to France, and the People of Chambord welcomed us. We spent some time chatting with the Mayor, who knew Canon Gilg, and received a private tour of the chateau. Do you have any information on where The co-pilot ( Klemstine) was hidden, and di he help the resistance during his time in France?

 

Hi! glad you had a nice trip to Chambord, I more or less expected a message from you , telling you were around, but I only heard later that you were around. I could have introduced to to a friend who know where Klemmstine was hidden. I now for sure that he did not take part in Resistance activities unlike kalan who chose to harras the Germans with his helpers.
