Hello, I'm new to this forum, so I hope I'm in the right place. I have found out some about my grandpa's service, but there is one item I can't figure out, and can't seem to find any information on. My grandpa, Basil Dorr Hornbeck, of Clarksburg, WV served in the 8th Army. I have found that he was a Tec-5 rank. The one patch that I see in several pictures of him, and have the actual patch but can't find anything out about is on his Right Shoulder. And in some pictures, it is on his hat as well. I have attached a picture of the patch below. Does anyone know what this is? Any clues is greatly appreciated. I can post a pic of my grandpa that shows this patch on him as well if needed. Thanks!!!

Well, I finally figured it out. I found a website that has a ton of info on patches, pins and other insignia from the US Army in WW2. I emailed the webmaster on there, and asked him about the patch. He dug and found that the patch in question is for the 1629th Engineer Construction Battalion.....so it is Divisional Insignia. Of course, after finding that out, I look over some of my grandpa's pics from overseas, and found one that is of a sign for the 1629th Motor Pool. So this definitely adds up. Least that gives me a start to keep digging and find out more about this battalion. Just figured I'd post the answer on here in case anyone else ever came across the same patch, or if anyone was curious.
