CVM, this appears (at least to me) to be a fairly touchy subject amongst many who were there, I doubt many would be willing to tell of their experiences on a forum, better to check the official documents.

I apologize if i offended anyone, you see, i am studying this topic for a class i am taking. Tomorrow a man named Matt Morrison, a member of the IRA, will be talking to us about his experience there. I was looking for some inspiration as to certain questions i should ask him

CVM, don't worry, we are not offended, just interested. Have you ever seen the film 'rules of engagement'? I have always got the impression that bloody sunday was rather like that, only without the cameras. What I mean is that, whilst I am inclined to believe the IRA opened up first (not that I am unbiased in any way) there is such a rediculous number of lies going around about it that we may never know the truth.

Surely number 9 your not stating a terrorist is a terrorist..?

March 2002 St.Patricks Day Parade New York.. less than 6 months after a massive terrorist atrocity in that city....Another terrorist was allowed to be parade marshal. Sigh...

I would though ask him one question? Which pig farm did Murphy and his henchmen feed captain Robert Nairac to the pigs afer they kidnapped and tortured him?

A terroist is a terroist some may think one kind are Robin Hood figures, Im Irish catholic and the IRA bully boys have never represented me or mine.

But now Ive got that out of the way, CV, there are quite a few good sites on Bloody Sunday on the internet. One of the better reports on the incident although as Steffan says still clouded in they did this we did that routine was recently aired on TV over here..

The story needed to be told again, I think we all had our own views on the day. I do know a member of 1 para who was in the area on the day but not in the shooting area.

I think you probably dont have the time, but it may be worth your while to get a view of the whole day, from the start of the peaceful civil rights march and how the Parachute regt elswehere were involved in actions that may have led to the incident a few hours later. Blood was put to boiling point by actions before the main incident.

Things went wrong long before the shooting started at the point we all know of.

    CV,

    http://www.playbackstl.com/Current/NP/bloodysunday.htm

This was the program I was talking of...

It may well be what the guy will base his story on.

One of the better more recent stories, but dont forget it was produced as entertainment in the sense of a dramamentuary..

It still left a lot of unanswered questions.

Take a look at that, an article by this Morrison chap:

    http://larkspirit.com/bloodysunday/witness.html

Urqh, the one bit that really confuses me about the whole thing is why would British paras open fire without any provocation? The rules of engagement are set in stone and I can not think of any other incidents off the top of my head when British soldiers have for no apparent reason opened fire on a crowd of civilians. It just doesn't seem right.

Why? Actually I would put more money on the IRA members in the crowd (who for some reason turned up at a 'passive protest' armed, weird) beginning to fire first.

Sounds like a real well balanced educational study. I'm sure the terrorist you've engaged will provided a real objective view which all the kiddies can take home as they chant 'death to the English'.

Who do YOU think live in Northern Ireland? Why was Ireland partitioned? When was Ireland EVER a untied country, i.e. under one Irish ruler?

What you got next week? nazi concentration camps as told by a Totenkopf guard?

Bang on no.9, doubt they will have a para there. Actually having read that blokes account of the day, I wouldent believe a word he says (he claims one minute he couldent raise his hands to his face because of the crowd, then he was able to run, weird).

I just find the whole scenario bizarre to the extent of being perverse.

I wouldn’t want my child, or any child, exposed to the propaganda drivel of a subversive anarchist, ESPECIALLY if it’s served up to them IN SCHOOL. If that were to happen here, the so called ‘teacher’ wouldn’t thereafter be even allowed to teach toilet training to a house brick, whether or not they were prosecuted for the proliferation of terrorism.

Maybe our American posters can’t see what the fuss is about? And why not, I don’t expect many (if any) have ever acquainted themselves with the real development of Britain. OK, today there’s plenty of talk about American aggression and American Imperialism. The web is full of it as well as most European newspapers to varying degrees from time to time.

I’m a teacher and my class is going to ‘examine’ this question. So, I decide we’ll look at America at war – Vietnam will do as this was a long war and essentially American. “Tomorrow class, we’ll discuss the My Lai massacre and we’ll have a talk by Pham Phuc who was there. Afterwards you can decide if America is all about Disney Land and World Policing or gunslinging barbarism.”

    Hmm……good teacher ain’t I?

No.9, hardly surprising really, the IRB was founded in Boston. I think Bish might have something to say were he here, ironic considering how he is otherwise occupied.

Terrorism, Its roots and its causes

so dont worry, its not mainstream school.

And BTW, i get into arguements with a friend of mine consistantly because he supports IRA and groups like it, he gets pissed becomes everytime he walks into my room he sees a Union Jack hanging prominantly on the wall.

CVM, I think the thing is that when it comes to the IRA students in the US appear to get a rather one sided view. I know several people who are very much like your friend in their pro-IRA views and yet they were the first to condemn 'terrorism' after 9/11. They seem to think that the IRA are freedom fighters and so their actions are justifiable, this can not be helped by only getting one side of the story whilst the US government harbours known IRA terrorists and even parades them in public making them appear as 'heroes'. Twice I have had to leave an area due to IRA bomb threats, my friends school had a bomb placed in it by them and I can think of several other 'bomb scares' and so on that I have been involved in in some way. Maybe I am just accident prone or unlucky but all the same, I hope you can see why many people take exception to some peoples attitudes. I am not trying to suggest that the British are saints by any stretch of the imagination, just that an objective view (which it appears you have) is necessary.

Well thank you CvM, it’s now less clear than before. You say the course is on ’ Terrorism, Its roots and its causes’, so what is the value of spending time on one mid-way incident? – let alone bring in a confirmed terrorist to expound his propaganda? Or are we to take it he’s going to express a balanced over-view from all four sides? Yes, the Irish Republican people, the Northern Irish people, the British government and the IRA?

You still haven’t answered my three questions????????????????????????

    Ok, how rude of me:

1)Are you also having a talk by someone who took part in 11 September?

-Nope, having an FBI Intelligence officer talking about intelligence gathering in the war on terror.

2)Who do YOU think live in Northern Ireland? Why was Ireland partitioned? When was Ireland EVER a untied country, i.e. under one Irish ruler?

-Well, as i recall, Meath, belonged to England. But Ulster Didnt (Using my EU2 Knowledge)

3)What you got next week? nazi concentration camps as told by a Totenkopf guard?

    - Nope, same as number 1
