I would like map some of the missions on the 156 Squadron site. I have been given some navigational worksheets for a mission to Hamburg, but am not sure of the Squadron or Date. Anyone got any ideas? Using Google maps I have mapped the route for this raid, see Google Maps JavaScript API Example I would like to obtain the same details for a few other major missions, viz: Berlin ... any dates Nuremberg - 30/3/44 Brunswick 14/1/44 Ruhr - any dates Or for that matter any mission that 156 Sqn may have participated. So does anyone have these details or alternatively know where I might obtain them. I think a visual of the route may add to peoples understanding of how these raids were accomplished and the navigational difficulties involved. The Google maps provide all the usual zoom in and out facilities, quite neat really Robin Riley 156 Squadron RAF - 8 Group Pathfinder Force
The squadron ORB's should give details..... I've nothing for 156, but for example from 103 squardron raid on berlin december '43 gives.... The Route was from Elsham Wolds to Mablethorpe then over the North Sea to Holland and then on into Germany. The force that night consisted of 458 aircraft, 425 Lancasters, 18 Mosquitoes and 15 Halifaxes. The plan of attack for this raid was to be similar to previous raids. Four Mosquitos would drop flares to the south of Berlin as a feint attack; four others would drop metallic anti-radar strips and bombs. The pathfinders dropped red target markers and sky-markers using the ground mapping H2S radar on the target itself. the route taken was base-mablethorpe, 5250N 0330E, 5235N 0440E, 5238N 1004E, 5236N 1220E, TARGET(Berlin), then 5230N 1350E, 5255N 1350E,5238N 1004E, 5235N 0440E, 5250N 0330E, mablethorpe, base(Elsham Wolds)
