My great uncle (7877476 pte,H Kesson,R Tank C) complied this book whilst traveling round india with the royal tank corp he served with pre ww2 iv had it for afew years now and allways remember being facinated by it as a child and thought some of u might be interested in it seeing afew pics from the album
Lovely stuff. One of my favourite periods for vehicles and sheer 'style'. I particularly like the second shot of 'Tracery' (?), which appears to be a Crossley (or IP Rolls?). Always nice to see new shots of these old dears. Just wondering; are there any more shots that show the names on Armoured cars, or any mention of unit, or officer's names? Cheers, Adam.
Hi Yeah theres more shots got a huge book of them, taj mahal, different forts and other generaly interesting things from his travels I'll get a couple posted up for u if u like, the book should be in a museum so everyone can look ideally It's a good bit of history, unsure about any officers names and unit names. My gran might have know as she gave it too me b4 she died, she knew my great uncle n spoke of him well, just drank tea and always smartly dressed, spoke highly of the empire and India.
The Tank Museum at Bovington may well be interested in copies of some of the shots. They're certainly a main repository for prewar Armoured car and North-West Frontier stuff. ~A
More good stuff. Radio antenna mounted on that leading car in the 'Escort Duty' pic. The Workshop shot's particularly interesting - I wonder if this is one of the bodies that was fitted to newer chassis. (Cheeky, but I don't suppose the pictures pop out of those corner mounts, so they could be scanned properly to extract a bit of detail? ) ~A
well iv emailed the tank museum and just waiting on hearing back from them iv got over 200 photos so taking them all out and scanning them will be abit of a mission, anything your particulary after?
:eyebrows: Anything clearly showing detail on armoured cars, trucks, or tanks really. Workshop stuff's fascinating too. I'm funny like that. Do you know any more of Great Uncle's service? Did he go on to WW2 with the Tanks, as so many did from India? (I know some chaps that are rather good at British service records if you get the urge to look deeper.) ~A
yeah id love too know more but wouldnt know where too start, all of my family that would know things about him etc have sadly passed away now so its kinda distant but im facinated by it all,so if you know anyone that would be great help ok well if u send me your email address i could get some decent pictures taken for you and email u them i know what u mean about being funny about the mechanical side of things,if only they could talk!! im very much into my classic cars too and own a 1962 morris cooper and a daily driver mk1 golf caddy pickup truck, older things are miles more interesting and better looking than modern hi-tech things, you can allmost feel like u were there!
