Greetings One & All, I'm currently putting together a WWII British Homefront roleplay game sourcebook and I having trouble finding a written resource or website with a listing of basic everyday consumer goods prices (in Pounds Sterling rather than the US equivalent). I'm keen to find prices for basic household items, but prices for other consumer goods, property prices, travel and automobiles would prove immensely beneficial too. Thankyou Matt.K*
hi matt and welcome..try these for starters.. UKHOMEFRONTS VERY OWN WW2 RECIPES & MONEY SAVING HINTS http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/archive/index.php/t-128554.html
This won't do you any good as per British stuff, but you might search around for a site like it focused on the UK. This one is sort of fun for we Americans to look at and shake out heads. Goto: 1940s history including Popular Culture, Prices, Events, Technology and Inventions and from there you can go to the "home" site and explore other decades as well. This one isn't exactly "on point" since it is about the British rationing system, but it does include a few prices as well. See: http://www.history.ac.uk/ihr/Focus/War/londonRation.html
Found another link you might be able to exploit, it is in an Excel format and since I don't want it I didn't try it. At anyrate goto: The Food Timeline--historic food prices and scroll down to near the bottom of the page and there the "other countries" section will appear. Just go from there!

Most people relied on buses and trains. At first petrol for cars was rationed. However it 1942 it was stopped altogether! Many things were in short supply or unavailable even if they were not rationed and queuing became part of British life. There were no bananas in Britain during the Second World War as they had to be imported from abroad. Most toy factories were converted to making things for the war so children had to make do with old toys or make their own from pieces of cloth or wood. From February 1941 soap and washing powder were rationed and even saucepans were very difficult to come by."
