Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the markings on my Uncle Rex’s uniform are. I know he was a Sergeant but as for the rest, I’m not sure. Thank you!
Quite possibly the 59th Infantry Division sign . Not 100% sure but can't think what else it could be Underneath that 2 arm of service strips that denote his unit is in the second brigade of the division. 59th (Staffordshire) Division in WWII Arm of Service Strips.
I’m not sure that this is the 59th Division…….as it’s a little bit of a side shot, you can’t really tell if the Triangle has other markings……and of course, black and white does not give you the colours. He’s a diagram of all the British Divisions in WW2 and you can see the one’s with Triangles……..I don’t think its the 1st Infantry Division (white) as the triangle patch is quite dark…….but the 59th Division has “markings” within the triangle, which I can’t quite see on the photo……..and also the same issue with the 3rd Infantry Division, the 66th Infantry Division
Would be handy if we could read that slip-on title on his shoulder tab. Try putting his name & rank in here, it might tell you what that ribbon is, as long as it's a gallantry award- The Gazette | Official Public Record...
