I know its been a while since it was aired, but i have only just had the oppurtunity to be able to sit down and watch it in a peaceful enviroment, where i could take it all in. And it has changed my view big time, Not about the dambusters or the raid itself, but my view of the average german man in the street so to speak, I must confess to having had a very narrow minded view of the German people and if im honest I tarred them all with the same brush of the past. BUT seeing those very decent German people tending a Memorial on one of the crash sites, has competely reversed that attitude, and opened my eyes that litle bit wider to see the bigger picture. I found the whole film to be very very well produced and i dont mind admitting it brought a tear to my eye when our hero saw the german film of the destruction it caused. I still beleive the raids were a necessary part of the war, But as Johnnie Johnson finished the programme saying, "its just tragic that we had to go to war in the first place"

Glad to hear you changed your view about about the German people. Indeed not all of them were whipped up in to a frenzy as many saw what Hitler stood for and some saw he would destroy Germany. As for the program it made you stop and think, always nice to hear veterans talk about there experience during WW2 and how they now look back on those years.

I also watched it with my 11 year old, just to bring home to him what these guys did for the future generations...........it kept him interested for the whole programme, which is an acheivement in itself.
