I have always wondered, which ship killled the most people? When I say this I mean by the ship itself, not airplanes it launched and whatnot...

I'm guessing you still count the torpedoes it launched and shells it fired though...?!? :D

I'd venture a guess and say it's probably a submarine.Find out who the top sub drivers are.As far as surface vessels go,the deadliest ship might not have participated in WWII.Definately an interesting topic.

One possible candidate could be soviet submarine S-13 which on 31 January 1945 sunk german passenger ship Wilhelm Gustloff, full of refugees, causing the death of 9400 people.

Yes, S-13 may be the one. Just a couple weeks after Gustloff, she sank another large transport, General Steuben; 3600 people were lost.
Figures for the three big disasters (Gustloff, Steuben, and Goya) vary wildly from source to source, but each cost more than 3500 lives.

After seeing that first post, first ship that came my mind was that S-13.

And, besides those three ships already mentioned, there was two more ships that were sunk with thousands of casualties during spring 1945 at Baltic Sea.
    Cap Arcona and Thielbek.

Well it can't be a submarine, because its a boat, therefore I say the destroyers for the many subs they sank?

I believe m-7 is looking for one specific ship, not the class of vessel.

There is also the British submarine UPHOLDER, which sank three Italian liners packed with troops in the Mediterranean. I forget the final death toll, but it was in the thousands.
