Hello i do a U.S 1st Infantry Division Impression, my late year 44 uniform (summer) consists of hbt's (OD #7) set, with a m41 jacket. I portray a Sgt so i have my rank and patch on my m41 jacket, now would they have had rank sewed on hbt jacket? i know the m37 wool underneath had rank and patch.

    Thanks

IIRC the HBT's worn by the 1st ID in Normandy were 'gas impregnated' and they were ordered to wear these for a month or two after the landing. I don't think it was likely that many sewed on NCO rank to these HBT's but there might have been exceptions. Always an option to be an individual "in the field".

It seems once they ditched the heavy 'gas impregnated' HBT's most switched to the wool OD's and field jackets.

I'll have pay more attention when I view period photos in the future.
