My grandfather was Eurphus Green, and served with Battery B in the 980th. I've noticed there are some veterans and family members of veterans of the same unit on this message board. I was just curious if any of you may have known him or have any information about him and his service.

Great photos, lancewg. Thanks for posting them. Hopefully, one of the 980th folks will chime in soon.

My dad, Marvin L. Snyder, was in Battery B. I will keep my eye out for any reference to Eurphus in his letters (I have not read them all yet). I'll also see if it looks like he is in any of my dad's pictures. I need to get back to scanning and posting them.

Depending on when you grandfather joined the battery he might have been with the first heavy artillery to land at Normandy since Battery B went ahead of the rest of the battalion. My dad landed later with the rest of the battalion and rejoined with Battery B. Not sure why he was not with Battery B on D-Day but they may not have sent medics with them initially or it might have been the truck accident he was in just before Normandy. He almost did not get out of the hospital with clearance in time to join the rest of the battalion (actually he lied his way out of the hospital so he won't lose his outfit he had trained with all of that time).

The poster 980th might have something.

Forgot to mention, the Eisenhower library has some of the units records. They havent been catalogued yet so i dont know how extensive, but probably some time next month i intend to go check it out.

GW, you may want to try sending lancewg a private message. He hasn't logged in since April.

I'm not sure GadgetWorks, and I'm so sorry it took me so long to reply. My own military career has taken me away for the past year so I hope you are still on here.
