Hi all, I have a small but growing collection of f,s knifes , there are markings on some, can any one help me with there origin B2 on knife Brtish arrow and 10/3188 on sheth there are some other markings on the later sheth which I can not fully make out, looks like asulan and alrewas the words are not complete but they may help with identification the back is marked 1945
The broad arrow of your third-pattern F-S knife is the British Goverbment ownership or acceptance mark, signifying that the weapon has been inspected and meets Government Standards. 'B2' in this case is the Inspector's Mark. I can't find a reference to the scabbard markings. An excellent and invaluable little reference to F-S knives is Alan W Locken's 'Collector's Guide To The Fairbairn - Sykes Fighting Knife' ( Bunker To Bunker Books, Winnipeg, 1995 : ISBN 0 - 9699764-0-2 ).
If it's any help, Alrewas is a village in Staffordshire. Site of a factory perhaps? Wasn't Asulan some kind of deity?
