Since I started my search and found these forums, I have been slowly unravling things.

My grandfather, PFC Edward Bruinsma, was 7th Army, VI corps, 42nd infantry (Rainbow) division, 242nd infantry regiment, Company C.

I am finding a lot more info with all this to go from. Some very interesting reading material that ties directly to CO C. I am begining to see why he never wanted to talk of this. According to my research so far there was one siver star awarded to this company and grandma swears it was given to grandpa. He threw it away. I am having trouble finding any documentation he was actually awarded this honor. Most of his records were apparently lost during a fire.

At the very least I am getting a better picture painted of what his time in the war was like.
