Not sure what prices are doing "across the pond" but here in the States prices are record high. Everyone thinks we need to tap into our "strategic reserves".Stupid idea!IMO.Nows the chance to bash us "gas-guzzling" americans. Or has the SUV craze caught on there, too? PS. Keep it clean!
We are expected to pay over 3.50 US by summers end here in southern Oregon. No problem opening up the Alaska pipeline and NO it won't be an environmental fiasco if done right. Been there seen it......... right now it is another cheap excuse for the oil imperialists to choke the American public around the neck. Not too much bitching on my part as Europeans have paid too high a price for many a year for a litre of petrol.... ♠
I never understood how the pricing is done. You get a shipment on Tuesday and then another on Friday yet the price changes 4 times. Usually higher to closer you get to Friday.
$1.90/gallon here on East coast[premium].Why $3.00/gal.on west coast? As PzJgr said"how do they come up with these prices"? Erich. So you're saying there's more oil to be had in Alaska?ie.pipeline.Always seems to go up during sumer vacation and X-mas holidays.Coincidence?
I'm paying a 1.85 at the cheapo spot. Heard 3.00 last fall and it seems a definate here in the platonic sphere. Should investigate what is going on in the bay area of California as the oil refineries are based there and prices are now at 2.25 plus on up. why ? greed. the great white north hasn't even been touched yet. ♠
The media seems to be egging on the oil companies with their talley "3rd day record high" headlines. Curse those media pigs (remember that show in UK with the puppets?)
Emmmm, thought it was that cost of living thing.I was chatting with another carpenter in the Bay area of California and it seems they make around $60-$90 hour. That's about 3-4 times more than the rate here. This is what I do for a living.
I'll be brief as I am doing some pretty intense research. I make anywhere between 200-300.00 an hour at times and have heard the higher prices will be reflective on area residents with the highest gross income. My living area is the most corrupt and most out of work job county in the state of Oregon but it is in the top 10 areas in the US to live due to proximity of the ocean and mountains for recreational purposes...........go figure that ! in any case many will just stay put including myself if the gallon of gas hits 3.00 US and beyond, there will be few to afford such stupidity but only the very rich........ ok enough barfing for one day, time for a nice cool rainy walk in the woods with a glas of German wine in hand......... Erich ♠
LAFAYETTE< WE HAVE LANDED!!! Here is the scoop you will not hear in the news. My Brother-in-Law is a supervisor at Valero Refinery here in CC,Tx--he supervises the whatever-it-takes to make gasoline. He said that gaas only costs them 60 cents per gallon to make. The rest of the charges are state and Govt taxes and of course greed on companies part. Currently, the "cheapest" price here is $1.59 per gallon. What fragging gets me is that we have a dozen or more refineries right here within a 30 mile radius! We here should not be getting gauged as well as the rest of the country. Also, as what you will hear in the media--factors for price increases. 1)Refineries are regearing for summertime production after cutting production in the winter. 2) Recooperating from the "bad" winter and vastly increased usage of gas. 3)Traditional higher summer prices. 4) Opec cutting back production just to make prices rise so those lazy arabs can get wealthier. That is about the gist of it.
well we sure did not have a bad winter here on the west coast......... tap into Alaska and Friedrich would know better than I but how about getting the Mexican populace on track and up to snuff financially by tapping into the Mexican oil market ? ok two more quarters for the pot.......headin out in the rain
Hi E, that's true--Mexico is a hotbed for producing oil--so is Russia. They are also claiming the high prices for countries like China--using much much more and causing the prices to go up. BS is what I say--they have their own oil resources in that part of the world too.
I just got back from a trip over the pond to Canada. I couldn`t believe how cheap petrol (thats gas to you guys) is over there and in America. In my area of the UK we pay anywhere around 80p per litre. The exchange rate is about £1 =$2 so call it $1.60c a litre. There is about 4.5 litres to the gallon, we pay the equivilant of over $7 a gallon. I know theres a differance between a US gallon and an Imperial gallon but still.
The problem is multi-facetted. First, refinery capacity in the US has been relatively fixed for about 20 years (thank you enviromentalists for making that possible, or impossible to get a new plant on line). Next, there is the problem with blending of gasoline for emmission purposes. Each state seems to have its own version of this with the commensurate problem of refineries having to make small special batches for each area rather than one size fits all huge batches of product. Add on the general idiocy of California in all things not blessed by the far left and prices rise again. So, as any first year economics student can tell you when production costs rise and supply is exceeded by demand prices rise. The solution is drill for new sources and open new refineries not the liberal idea of smaller cars and reduction of use through public transport. This is grossly inefficent in the Western US. Cities are not set up for it, business is not geared to it and, people often cannot function productively in that environment. As a side note, the Sierra Club is hotly debating illegial immigration here as an environmental issue. The moron faction says it is not an enviromental issue even though the most enviromentally endangered US National park is Organ Pipe National Monumnent on the Mexico border and the southern Sonora desert is likewise becoming endangered due to huge numbers of illegals trampling it while scattering litter and other detrius everywhere. As for carpenters in the bay area, good luck living on $60 an hour when a abandonded crack (illegal drug) house is running $500,000 on the resale market. There are companies offering 50 year mortgages in California now.
Just to give you an idea: 1 gallon (=3.785 liters) Super unleaded in my town today (Germany): 4.14 EUR. This is, thanks to the strong EUR, a price of US-$ 3.42 / gallon France, Belgium is similar, Italy and espec. Eastern Europe's prices are somewhat lower, Britain and Nordic countries generally higher. You Yanks are moaning on a pretty high (in this price case: low) level, if you ask me. Cheers,
I'm American and am now living in Spain and honestly I thought America's gas prices were bad, here it's .96 euros a liter which comes out to about 3.60 a gallon. My eyes were definetly opened since coming here.
Ah, but the reason they are so high across Europe is simply taxes. Most, if not all, European states subsidize extensive public transport systems using gasoline taxes (among others). The left in the US (read socialists) want to do the same thing here...eg: Emplace massive public transportation systems and use taxes and public funds to subsidize them. But, the US is not Europe and this has been widely resisted as it is unworkable across what is a mostly sparsely populated country compared to Europe. Hence, US gas prices are lower. But, they could be much lower still if enviromental restrictions were less onoerous.
TA, Just as a comparison, out of the total money the British government collects from vehicle taxes, less than 1% actually gets spent on road maintenance. They're also doing their damndest to brainwash people into using public transport rather than cars, by overpricing leaded petrol and diesel in comparison to unleaded petrol, and giving tax cuts for smaller engined cars. They're also talking about widening the road toll system which already makes you pay to drive into central London. The annoying thing is, the chief advocate of this particular lunacy (David Begg) doesn't drive, has never had a driving test or licence! Yes, he is a left winger, before you ask! I have a petrol refinery less than 15 miles away. Doesn't make my petrol any bloody cheaper though. Regards, Gordon
When I was in Germany in 2000, it was roughly 4Dm per gallon. I paid for half the gas expenses since Susanne had to use her Audi. One fill up for her car cost me appx 125 DM. At that time here, to fill up her car would have cost about $18.00. Which is dollars was about $40.00 per tank cheaper.
When I was there the rate was 1DM = $1.60. So that means it was $6.40 a gallon. I remember fueling up in Austria and we had a 420SEL. Over $100 to fill up.
