Born January 19, 1919 in New Castle, TX, and died on February 25, 1956 in Big Spring, TX, at the young age of 37. Gerald was the son of Minnie Westbrook and William Webster Nelson, and entered the service on March 20, 1942. He served with the 90th infantry and was stationed first at Camp Barkely, then at Fort Dix, NJ. Later he was sent to Normandy and received a Bronze Star as well as 5 campaign stars for his service. Gerald married Gladys Hindman on July 17, 1946. His wife and three sons survived him in death. He is buried in Elmwood Memorial Park, Abilene, TX. Gerald's brothers, A.C. and Lester, also served with him in WWII, as well as a brother-in-law, Earl Adams.
