This photo shows Capt Robert Moore, a company commander in the 34th Infantry Division in Tunisia returning home in July 1943. The photo won the Pulitzer Prize. To me it is a powerful picture. It shows the love and emotion of the moment, but doesn't show the faces. It could be anyone, any soldier and any family, rejoicing at the return of a loved one. Here is further information and a video of his return. It is worth watching. The Cedar Rapids Gazette - Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Eastern Iowa
I wouldn't mind framing this in my office! Here is one I particulary appreciate from 1945 : the homecoming and meeting of a brother and sister.
I've always liked this one (german point of view) its got 1942/1 on the calendar in the top left corner I love the way the little girl is crying, seeing her daddy like this, while the older son is standing shy in the backround.
it's great to see the german point of view for ww2,they hade love ones that cared just as much as the allies love ones cared.
the first picture of a returning pow. I love this one because you see the faces. I will let you guess who is the loving mother
From the age of the girl, and I know its a drawing not a pic, but I would hazard a guess like many of all nations....she wouldn't have a clue who he was anyway..Like many returning soldiers...knew of him, but not him.
oh yeah ....he would have left for war before she was even born. i never thought of it that way, good spotting!
